I bought a Sig 220ST a few years ago, to keep my Sig 239 and Sig 228 company.  I think it's a great pistol.

Yes, it's an excellent pistol.  One of the nicest 45 ACP out of the box.  I wasn't sure what all the talk was about it until I got my first one.  It fits my hand better than any of my other Sigs.

There have been a few issues with the Carry model so I would recommend the full-sized P220.  And if he can find one, the P220ST is one of my favorites.

Let us know what he decides.

First off, it's not a "220"  It's a P220.

It's an awesome 45.
I have one and use it for my home defense gun.

Yeah, Hes going with the P220ST. Now I'm thinking of one myself, but we don't know whats the difference between the P220 and the P220ST?

220ST is the stainless. I have a P220R, its the 220 with the rail. I love it, carry it everyday in a CTAC.

I own or have owned the P220, P220R and the P220ST.  The ST was a tack driver of a pistol - I eventually sold it for more than it was worth to me since it was too heavy to carry @ 48oz unloaded.  The ST is a heavy but accurate pig, and mine was reliable as death and taxes.  I have found my other 220s to be accurate as well, but that ST weight is nice for soaking up the recoil.   My advice is ST for range/target/competition, non-ST if intent is to carry.

I'm on my 2nd P220 the first wasnt reliable at all but this one has never skipped a beat.  It's accurate and the DA trigger is decent.  I have little girly hands though and had to replace the stock trigger with Sig's short trigger.  ( it's a simple drop in ) The biggest downside is that Sig gets wayy too much money for them.

Thanks for the info guys. He plans on using it for the range but I'm looking for something to  carry. The P220R might be the way to go for me. I was on the fence with a Glock or the new FN, but there so fat, the 1911 was close but I'm looking for DA. I really can't think of anything to compete with the P220R on DA and being slim right now.

I read the data on the P220 combat and seen its barrel is crome line, can anyone tell me if the "plain jane" P220 is also crome line?

I have the P220ST and love it.  Very few of the new models come without the rail.  They don't make the old P220 with the stamped slide and no-rail frame anymore.  If you can get one, it is going to be much lighter than the P220ST, which has a machined stainless steel slide and frame.  The new P220 rail models still have the alloy frame, but they all have stainless slides, regardless of finish, so they are lighter than the ST, but not as light as the ones with the stamped slides.  They had the great reputation for durability when they had the stamped slides, so I would love to have one of those for carry.  My only gripe with the ST is that it is difficult to clean the extractor.  I'm told that the stamped slides make the extractor cleaning much easier.  I also like the Hogue rubber grips that come on the ST.
