Reading about the Very nice looken Sig 220 combat!
If sigs can be good looken

the Article is by Leroy Thompson

He said that the Pistol Like Virually All 45acp HANDGUNS shot 8 to 10 inches low with 230gr FMJ

As everyone knows lite bullets even shoot lower

I NEVER had this problem with my 45acp but its a 1911 Colt Combat Elite

Anyone have this PROBLEM with there 220 or any 45acp pistol

yes all people who cant shoot have one excuse or another....45s shoot low? umm...ok buddy

Well, I know him casually and he really is a good guy, so if he says it shot low...and especially THAT low...it probably did. But I am also sure most 220s do not do that nor do 'most' 45s with 230s. He may have also added 'for me' in the fime print...look again.

He said he handed it to several friends who also shot low

I have never had that problem.

Sig asks waaay too much for their guns anyway.

What???  That's ridiculous making a blanket statement like that.  I have a P220 Combat TB and it doesn't shoot low.

Either he's (they are) not a very good shot or there's something wrong with that one, but say they all shoot low
11/29/2007 2:41:48 PM EDT
[#6]
non of the 220's i own or have owned have done that...
11/29/2007 5:12:15 PM EDT

it would be one thing for him to say he shoots low with SIG only(which is still a crock of shit)  but for him to make a blanket statement that most ALL 45s shoot low?  bullshit

less time writing what you dont know about...and more time on the range.....or else leave the writing to experts

now I admit I have not read the article yet....and if the OP took it out of context so be it.....but if it reads as stated....well you already know how i feel

I just invested in a subscription to that rag, now I'm regretting it. I wonder if it's too late to cancel the subscription?

I'm sorry, but Leroy Thompson has rarely made sense as of late.  He wrote an article on the Beretta PX4 for SWAT a few months back, and admitted not even shooting the same pistol he was reviewing.  "If it's anything like this one..." doesn't cut it in serious journalism.

I have a P220 that I bought new about 6 years ago, and have the same problem w/ shooting low.  The gun is accurate and reliable, but I have to aim over the top of 8`plates at 15 yards to get a solid hit.  shooting paper at the same distance puts me about 8" low w/ the 230 grain loads I used, even lower w/ lighter/faster stuff.  Dead on windage wise, though.  I've shot several hundred rounds from sandbags and offhand with the same results.  I like the gun, and would like to put a set of rugged adjustable sights on it so I can compensate for this discrepancy.  Still carrying the old Glock 17 'cause it hits where I aim it.  The Sig will probably be a replacement  when I get the sight issue taken care of.

My new 220 carry hits where the sights point with most all bullet weights...at least not 8 inches low.  i think I'd send that one back.

Serious credibility issues in my book with the information given.......  unless he is shooting out past 100 yards.

I have a 220 Carry ant is about 2" low at 25 yards, with 230 ball ammo, so it could be me...

I have foind it difficult to read some of the articles these days not for the lack on infomration and abundance mis-information, but the butchering of the English language....

I write technical papers and reports for a living, accuracy and sentence sturcture is essential, very difficult for an engineer to learn.  So when I read these rags I look at the wording.

The one that tops my list of bad writers is Duane Thomas, I read one of has babble articles one time and could not read it....I mean I could not read it.

I highlighted the areas that were trash and sent it back to the publisher and asked if they have monkeys as proof readers....never heard back

I started off at 25y to check accuracy.

I found the same PROBLEM with the P220 Combat That I find Virtually EVERY 45ACP Handgun I receive from any factory.
ESPECIALLY with Nite sights. with 230gr ammo the P220 combat was shooting  almost 8-10 inches low
By the way, this problem is not just with me,because I have tested guns with two or three other shooters along and they shot as low or lower.

Since lighter, faster ammo will usually shoot even lower, I CANT IMAGINE FOR WHAT LOAD MANUFACTURES regulate their 45acp Pistols .

I think the author did the old "jerk the first round" because of the long trigger pull on the first round. The first time I shot my P220 Elite I did and the rounds impacted in the dirt. It's common until you realize your jerking it.

I can almost visualize the author jerking the trigger and closing his eye's while turning his head to the side.

My Sig P229 is Dead on at 50yards useing my reloads and a 180gr JHP bullet

My 220 is dead on to POA.  I usually shoot at 25 yards max, but it puts holes in the target when I do my part.

My P220 was POA/POI.  The only .45 that ever shot low for me was a Springfield V10 Ultra Compact using 230gr. rounds.  A bump to 185gr. took care of the problem.

None of my .45s have ever shot low. My P220 was a tack driver.

I had that problem with my SA 1911A1 loaded.  Sent back twice for sight replacement.  According to 10-8 forums, I was not the only to experience these problems.

The question i have is does it consistantly shoot low? If so then it needs the sights adjusted

Me to 25 max

most of the time  21feet/ 50 feet

But I was at the Rifle range Confirm Zeroing 50yards  with my Aimpoint and Eotech
Both on LMT M4`s

The so called instructor who just happen to be there said it was way to far to HIT
When it went cold he ran to my Target! then said NOTHING the rest of the day
every round was kept inside the 50yard Small Bore rifle Target

My MAIN BEEF is that he stated MOST ALL 45acp Pistols!
My Colt Combat Elite 1911 45acp is/was dead on

My P220 Combat shoots low, consistently.  I'll just get a shorter front sight.

The last time I shot a P220 45acp was back in 1996

They are so so accurate

I wish I bought one

But instead bought the newer 40cal P229 back then
Its also Highly accurate and shoots very nice groups at 50 yards

Good luck with your 220
