I own a  SIG P226 that was re-certified by SIG. I took it to the range today and fired an entire mag and after the mag was emptied the action did not open every time (A vast majority it didn't).Note, I am using credibly old magazines, because that is all it came with. I think it is the magazines, (I will buy some new ones) but would also like some other input. In short, I empty magazines and the action does not clear after the last round. I think it is the magazines being old and in bad shape but any other ideas?

Also, I am getting the jam occasionally where the round is half in the chamber and half in the mag. I am 99% its the mags because of their crappy old springs but the first one I am worried about.

Thanks guys.

If I am understanding correctly, are you saying that the slide is not locking back after you have fired your last round? If so, and the magazine bodies are still in good shape, I would replace the magazine springs and maybe the folllowers as well. TopGun Supply sells factory Sig parts at good prices. I just replaced all of the magazine springs on my old German P-226 with Wolff +10% magazine springs and the mags function like new.

Its quite common for some SIG shooters to allow there thumb to touch the slide release ever so slightly enough to prevent the slide from locking back.

Failing that, you magazines may need new guts.

+1  When I bought my first SIG, I had this trouble a lot.  You can't take as high a hold on a SIG as you can on a 1911.  If you aren't holding down the latch, then I would replace the mag springs.

Thats what we initially thought, it was the grip, but I had 3 different shooters shoot it and it happened 3 times. We thought it was the mag springs too, but I just wanted some more opinions.

Thanks guys.

Pistol was cleaned and lubricated?

What type of ammo were you using?

You are using Sig magazines?

Yeah, it wasn't even fired.

Remington UMC 9mm Luger 115gr.FMJ

They were SIG mags but incredibly old, they came with the gun (Sig Certified Used) I am thinking as others that the springs are old.

Did you clean and lubricate it? The factory oil is more of a preservative, and there is no telling how long it had been on the pistol.

Remington UMC is on the weak side for 9mm. Try some other brands of ammo next time.

If the springs were replaced and the slide rails were dry that could be your problem. BSW

I did lube it up but only once right after I bought it. It sat for 3 months. What are some brands that you would suggest with the wallet being one of the biggest priorties. Im thinking it is just that the magazine springs are worn, and maybe since I didn't re-lube it the rails got dried out.

Thanks.

Replacing the mag springs with Wolff springs is never going to hurt: http://www.gunsprings.com/1ndex.html

I have a SA Uzi. I noticed that UMC would short stroke. The best ammo I've found that runs in anything is S&B range safe. It's steel cased, but the bullets are non-magnetic. out of the Uzi I can get about 6MOA groups.  Prices can be found here: http://www.gun-deals.com/ammo.php?caliber=9mm%20%20(9x19)

CCI blazer has worked well for me too, both in the Uzi and the pistols. BSW

So the couple things I should try is getting new mag springs, re-lube?

New mag springs, new mags...   I like to keep no less than 5 per pistol.

Don't lube the mags.  Wash them with soap, dry, reassemble.

Never hurts to do a basic field strip clean and lube on the gun.

Sounds like a magazine / shooter error problem to me.

Try shooting it with your left hand to see if the slide locks back after the last round is fired...proves or disproves thumb placement problems every time.

I have a feeling that his only problem is the mags... but everything else is good advice.
