I've just begun having issues with my P228. You pull the trigger and click... nothing happens. Sometimes if you pull it again, it will fire. It's pretty random. There are times you can go through a whole mag without it happening and other's when it will do it 2-3 times. Is there something I could have done when I took apart the hammer assembly to add a new spring? Note: The gun did not have this problem for several months after the spring was installed. Just to be sure, I put the factory spring back but get the same results. I'm almost ready to pull the firing pin assembly but does anyone think it could be something else? Thank you, Ben |

Could be a few different things going on. Are you using different ammo? Some 9mm ammo has harder primers then others. Are you sure you have the hammer strut seated in the right position? The hammer strut can be a little tricky if you aren't used to changing out the hammer spring. Which spring did you change, the hammer spring?? If so, what weight hammer spring did you put in and did you get the correct spring for the spring base that your P228 has? The newer Sigs have a plastic spring base that uses a shorter hammer spring. Depending on when your P228 was made, you should have the old style metal hammer spring base. The factory hammer spring weight on your P228 is 24lbs. If you are trying different hammer spring weights to get a lighter DA pull, try an 18lb first. You need to shoot at least 100-150 rounds before the new spring seats itself. If you still get light primer strikes, move up to a 20lb spring and do the same thing. If that doesn't work move up to a 22 or a new 24lb spring and try that. Remember to run at least 150 flawless rounds through your P228 before you rely on it for SD. Good luck! |

The sear spring is in the correct position. The ammo that I've been using is Winchester White Box for plinking. Pretty cheap but it used to work just fine. As for the strut, it is possible that it's not in the correct position, however, I dont think the gun would function at all if it were in the wrong place. The firearm has the metal mainspring base. I can't remember what weight I replaced the mainspring with; it was changed out and shot enough that it should have seated, considering it worked fine for several months after the install. Now that I've reinstalled the old spring, do I have to reseat it? I was just hoping I could get it back to normal. |

Pulled the breechblock today and everything looks clean. Firing pin still has bluing and the spring seems to be fine. I think I'm going to start with a replacement spring kit and hope that takes care of it. If not, I imagine you'll hear back from me. Thanks for all the suggestions by the way. |
| This is so strange. The gun functioned flawlessly for the 100 rounds of test fire after wiping down the firing pin, block, etc. We did nothing else to it (no spring kit yet). The internals were oily but not dirty. Is there any way that excessive oil could have caused this? |
