Was on there sight and saw the 229 and 226SCT's Never got the head or tails as to what SCT meant but if you had to choose between the 229 in 9 mm or a 226 in .40 which would you choose and why? Are they even on the maket yet? Almost brought a 229 once .40SAS now I am kinda glad I didn't. How ever I was never a fan of the 9mm, no particular reason just fell in the middle ground on the .40 |

While I haven't heard much about the P226SCT, I do know that it will come with (4) added capacity mags. I think the standard P226 .40S&W mags are 12rd. This will come with 15rd .40S&W mags. Instead of 15rds of 9mm, it would be come with 20rd mags. Another difference is that it has front slide serrations. I don't know how useful they are, but I think they look cool. According to Sigarms website the front sight is TruGlo and the rear sight is a standard night sight. It looks like the P229SCT would come with 17rd 9mm mags and 14rd .40S&W mags. To be honest, my first SIG was a P229 in .40S&W. I bought it because I liked the idea that I could buy a 357SIG barrel and be able to shoot two calibers (can also be done with the P226 .40S&W). Little did I know that SIGs have a nasty habit of multiplying! Well, I guess what I'm trying to say is buy whichever one you want more right now. In a couple of months, you're gonna want to buy the other one too! Between 9mm or .40S&W, I am convinced that with decent self-defense rounds, they're pretty close ballistically. In terms of enjoyment, I like shooting the snappy .40S&W round more. In terms of cost, you can't beat 9mm for price. I hope that helps. One note about the P229SAS, it has a DAK trigger (SIG's very nice Double Action Only trigger system). If you would prefer to have a DA/SA pistol, stick with a standard SIG. Since I've done so much transition training for DA to SA, I prefer the standard trigger. If you are a revolver shooter, you may prefer the DAK trigger system. I don't think that the SCT models are available with the DAK trigger. Good luck with your search! |
