| for a fun, conceilable reliable , light recoiling gun in 9mm , what is the better choice- p239, p228, or p225? i would like the p228 for the capacity but i live in new york and don't know how available preban mags are for the 228. i am also interested in the p229r. |
You can use [pre-ban, 10 round] P229 9mm magazines in the P228. I carry P228 in 9mm sometimes. It can get a little heavy now and then, then P225 would be better for a lighter gun. Depends on your preference but you can't go wrong either way. P228 isn't made anymore. If you're buying new, you'll need a P229 in 9mm. |
This is not correct. Sig still makes the P228. They are generally not imported into the US. I bought a new one that was manufactured in January 2007. I still see new ones for sale at the local gun shows, and they are for sale on Gunbroker and other places on the Net. |

You can't go wrong with either the P239 or P228. P239 is a little lighter and smaller, but only has 7 round mag capacity, unless you buy the 10 round mags with the extensions. The P228 uses a double stack mag, and is not that much heavier IMO. I would rule out the P225 because you are carrying a gun that is almost the same size as a P228, but is limited to single stack mags. Either the P228 or the P239 are a great choice, but, since this is ARFCOM...... Buy both! |
Thanks for the correction! |

I have p226 357/40 12 round mags that I use in my p229. Logic denotes they could hold a few more 9mm. Even my SigPro came with 3 15 rounders. Is the law that serious up there? Honest question. Lived in the south all my life. Good choice on the p226. If you aren't going to carry it, get what fits your hand the best. Full frame will be easier to shoot as well. These dumb state gun laws never cease to amaze me. It'll take 10 9mm rounds to stop a BG anyway. Are the shotguns up there break-barrel one shots? Congrats on the new piece.

| we can't have hi caps manufactured after '94 ban date. so we need prebans or stick with 10 rd mags. on ar15s or any other rifle we can't have collapsible stocks bayo lugs or flash hiders unless they are on an upper sitting on a truly preban lower. we need pistol licenses to purchase pistols(pita) and can only carry to and from the range and it has to be concealed. shotguns follow the same guidelines. cali is much worse than us. funny thing is we can't have collapsible stocks but we can have a fixed a2 all the way down to the shortest fixed entry stock which is as short as a fully collapsed stock anyway. makes no freakin' sense. |
One correction, your pistol permit is either residence, business or concealed carry. The restrictions placed on your permit in relation to carry are administrative and have no force of law. The Court of Appeals did however rule that violation of them is grounds for revoking your permit, which itself is an administrative act. Some counties do indeed issue unrestricted carry permits, some do not. No non-NYC permit is legal within NYC unless endorsed by the NYC police chief. Pre-ban 9mm P229 and P226 mags are fairly common, I even have Pre-ban P229 .40 mags. P226 mags will fit in a P229, so I assume a P228 as well, although they will protrude from the grip. There is a spacer made so that P226 mags will fit flush to the grip of a P229. |
Me too. I'm still interested despite the negative crap I've read here. It may be a while before I can get one anyway, I've spent my wad on a SBR 9mm AR. |
