I have the chance to grab a sig 220 for a good price. I've heard these are VERY accurate and VERY durable pistols. I am familiar with Sig's "To hell and back reliability" As I've owned three(currently two) Sigs. Not too sure if I need another .45, There's a Wilson CQB and a Springfield A1-1911 in my stable...but supposedly the 220 is more accurate than the 1911. True or false? Feelings? Thanks jay |

I had three Sig 220s at one time and they are great guns. A bit limited on mag capacity, and because of that, I rarely carried any of them. They are very accurate and very reliable. I will probably buy a heavy stainless one if I find a used on with a good price tag. |

I have a 220 from 1998. It's a very nice pistol. Good grip, not too thick, not too thin, and the trigger is pretty smooth. Accuracy is superb. My only problem is it has a pretty high bore axis. Not a big deal if you shoot standard velocity loads, but if you shoot 230 gr. +P it gets a little whippy and more difficult to control. Some of you may not have an issue with this, but I definitely feel it. I've heard a lot of bad reviews about Sig Sauer's new pistols and poor customer service. I'd hesitate to buy a new one, or one built recently. My newest Sig is the 220 so I have no personal experience with these issues. MJD |
| +1 for the P220. My first handgun purchase was actually a P220ST and to this day it is still my carry gun. Its a bit heavy I admit (yes I do own other "defensive" handguns) but it fits my hand better than any other handgun I have ever tried. Great guns and very accurate for the money. |

I guess it really depend on the level of accuracy you're looking for. If you're looking for combat accuracy, the P220 is an excellent choice. If you're looking to create sub-inch groups at 25 yards, I would think that you'll need to invest in a new barrel and some custom work (depending on your level of marksmanship). I shoot better groups with my 1911s than with my P220ST, but if the SHTF I would take my SIG over my 1911s. It's really hard to beat the 1911 trigger, but I feel safer with my SIG. Good luck with your search! |

I used to have a Sig P220 DAO. I personally hated the trigger pull. YMMV. Had an 8 round mag capacity, so you will become proficient at mag changes during qualifications. Overall, it was a good pistol. VERY accurate and reliable. Mine you had to make certain the magazine was seated fully. More that once I inserted a magazine and leveled to fire and got a "click" after pulling the trigger. My reaction was WTF? *smack-smack, pull slide, and pull trigger again. I would not mind having another one, I just was not a fan of the DAO. A couple pennies from me. |
| I love my P220 (so far, I only have 200 rounds through it though). The only trouble that I have had with mine is that sometimes it fails to lock back on an empty mag when firing. I think that this might have something to do with my grip on the pistol though, as I sometimes come in contact with the slide release. |
I've acquired my fathers first Tx Highway Patrol duty weapon which happens to be the P220 DA/SA. This pistol came with four mags. Mind you, this pistol went through recruit school and many bi-yearly qualifications as well as some fun trips to the range. He gave this to me back in 1997 when they went to the Sig P226 in .357sig( ), and I've personally shot THOUSANDS of rounds through it! I mean, I've shot everything through it from dirty Wolf to Black Talons and it's been EXTREMELY reliable. Just last week it started to not lock back after it's final round. I switched out the mags with one of my buddies P220's and it started working fine again. The 220 is one of my favorite Sigs. I currently own the 220, 225, 226, 229 and the 239(my carry piece). Can't go wrong with the P220, it'll quickly earn your respect |

I have the 220 match and it shots great groups....had to send it bach to Sig 2x for adjustable site issue. They Totally replaced the old site very quickly and had no trouble from an excellent customer service. Its SA/DA and it holds its own with my 1911's,you can get 10 rnd mags from CDNN cheaper than the factory. You cant have to many .45's |
| Without a Ransom Rest, you won't be able to tell which is more accurate, a Sig P220 or a WC 1911. Now, you might shoot one of them better than the other, but that could be because of a better trigger, better ergonomics, better recoil management, personal preference, etc. I have both and love both. A Sig P220 is a fine handgun, if you can get a deal on one, you should snag it. |

i purchased one by accident. i had a taurus pt92f ina 9mm at the time and kept on jaming with reloads. A guy at my local range had a 9mm sig i think it was a p226 ran my reloads though it with no problems. that night went to the local gun store to look for a sig in a 9mm couldnt find one but they had a used sig p220 in a 45acp was a little unhappy that they didnt have a 9m but i purchased it . About six months later the rave came out in the gun mags about the sig p220. Lucky i got mine couldnt get one for a very long time. Great gun i have 21k rounds through mine and no issues at all.. Is not a tack driver like a decked out 1911 no but it could be used for combat competition need to be. Buy it you cant go wrong. I puchased a sig p226 in a 9m as a backup for plinking just as good at the sig p220. Only pistol i like more is my s&w 659 but thats due to being a heavy stainless still 9mm with no recoil. I couldnt carry it as firearm. I have carried the sig p220 with no problems at all but its big. :-) |
I currently own 3 P-220's a standard w/ a hard brushed chrome finish, an ST and a Match SAO. I also have a P-245. Buy it. |
Put 200 rounds through mine today. Just cleaned it: ![]() 3 Mags of JHP, 4 FMJ for the range. And I have the DA/SA with SRT. |

Basically I agree with what quite a few people are saying. P220 is a great gun, I know tons of people who have them, and I have not heard very many bad things about the P220 and about really any Sig Pistols in general. This is just me, but I think it shoots better than most 1911s and feels more comfortable than them too. |
5-Star Fescue, right? I love mine too. I'm a form and function guy, so it fits the bill for me. We should form our own P220 Combat club |
i know this is a 220 thread, but nice Blackwater. I have one also and love it, but I'm saving my grips. |
