Took my p220r CPO to the range for the first time today. Had a few issues and was wondering if anyone in here had resolutions to them. 1. Accuracy - Am thinking this was me, groupings at even 21' were over twice as big as with my 1911. Did manage a couple mediocre groups, but nothing to write home bout. 2. A LOT of failures to chamber rounds. I don't use the slide release, and I do not ride the slide, I pull slide completely to rear and then let it go to get full momentmum. Even while firing, I had multiple failures where slide tried to chamber a round but "stuck" 1/2" to 3/4" open. Not limp wristing, and firearm is cleam and lubricated with Miltech. 3. Slide is not remaining back on last round consistantly. Am using new factory magazines. I have heard the horror stories of sending sigs back to sig, so was wondering if these were issues that could be resolved easily. I put about 275 rounds through it today, and issues were with me the whole time. Any suggestions? |

What were you using for ammo? It shouldn't matter, but underpowered stuff could worsen some of these issues. 1. This may be you needing to get used to a new pistol. I haven't noticed any accuracy problems with my 220R that I also got as a CPO. 2. This sounds like a dirty/tight chamber to be honest. Did you see if you could get the pistol into battery by hitting the back of the slide? 3. This could be mags or thumb placement (very common for new Sig owners). Take a look at your thumbs when the slide does not lock back on an empty mag. |
Thanks. |

I owuld agree with above...the horror stories with SiGARMS are mostly that...stories...I have had a good experience with them...this is mostly for their GSR 1911s...not the tried and true made forever P220 (albeit with a rail)...as an old time SiG Sauer owner shooter who has recently come back to SiG AND has 1911s...the suggestions make sense. Good luck and let us know how it goes... Bill |

OK. Ammo used was UMC green box and golden saber 230grn. Stripped it down again and soaked barrel in Hoppes for 24 hrs running a brush thru every few hours. It is immaculate, with barrel out I fit rounds of same ammo in and there was no binding and the fit appeared same as with my ed brown barrel from my 1911. Re-lubed with Miltech. Attempted to load a round and FAILED. Round ishalf into chamber, but slide requires a smack to send it all the way forward. Magazine issue was checked with slide off. I have two magazines that evidently the springs don't have it in them to push up the slide release on an empty magazine. My others are fine. (I used the new "good" ones to test function of loading.) I have a new barrel and spring set on the way, I want this thing to work dangit... |

Doesn't sound like a barrel problem to me. Sounds like a magazine problem or a feed ramp problem. Do both factory mags exhibit the same problem or is it just one? Are you shooting factory mags? Are the seating fully in the well? what are the relationships like between the lower feed ramp milled into the frame and the feed ramp milled into the barrel? is there a BIG separation or discontinuity between them (there will be some). When a round fails to chamber, look for where it is hung up. Is it wedged at an angle with the nose jammed up behind the chamber mouth, or is it jammed in line with the bore? Are the case mouths getting chewed up (are the rounds jamming on the case mouths)? Throwing money at these things can be immensely frustrating so try to diagnose it right before you start replacing parts. |
