I'm a big Sig fan, hence my handle (Sig Dude was taken).

I currently have a 226ST, 229 Elite, and TacOps 9.

Considering a 229 Legion in 9mm.

My three concerns are:

1.  Is the finish, which looks pretty much awesome in marketing pictures, awesome in person?  Is it uniform?

2.  Is the bore axis abnormally high on this gun?

3.  Is it a good gun for a guy with small hands to shoot?

Admittedly, my concerns stem from tis video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-XJ8GKDYME

Thanks for any advice.  It's a lot of money, so I really want to do my homework first here.

I don't have the Legion 229, I do have the Legion 226 SAO, I bought it solely for the SAO.
If they didn't have the SAO, I would not have paid the premier for the Legion.
If I was looking at a Sig 9mm , which I was, I bought 225A1,,228, and a 229 SAS for much less than a Legion 229 would have cost. You can find some very nice lightly used ones if you look and have some patience.
I got the 225A1, like new for $600, the 228 all German with Trijicon new HD's for $850, and a new 229 SAS from CDNN currently available for $799.
I don't feel the da/sa Legions are worth the price, but in the end get what you want, you only live once.

I wouldn't worry about the finish. Just do a basic inspection of the gun before accepting it.
Unusually high bore axis?? No, it's a 229.

Go handle one at a gun store to determine if you hands are big enough with th g10 grips.   If so you could always change out the grips to something a bit smaller.

My P229 Legion in .357 (not a 9mm fan) is my EDC and I carried it to church today.  I was splitting time between the P320 and this, but the P320 has been benched until it gets back from the recall.

The finish on mine looked spotty until I wiped it with an oily cloth, then (and now) it looks great.

I've never noticed the bore access whatsoever, and that's with .357 sig.

One thing is for certain: it is an incredibly sexy looking pistol.

OK, excuse my ignorance, but why SAO over SA/DA?

Isn't SA/DA safer to carry?

Also, will the 229 be offered in SAO?

The sao will have a manual safety and a better single action trigger on the first shot.

I feel like it could use a beavertail safety as well.  Maybe not a 1911 style, but something.

I recently bought a Legion 226 9mm, SA/DA as my retirement present. I absolutely love it. My first Sig was a P220 West German made I bought new back in the late 80's. Still have it but wanted a P226 as well. The trigger job and other touches were worth it to me. To each his own on the SAO. I'm not so enamored with it as some are. The only thing I didn't like was the thumb busting mags. Those are the stiffest mag springs I've ever encountered but breaking them in will solve that problem in time. I found the UpLULA mag loader works great.

I've got a 229 Legion in 9mm.  Can't speak to how it will feel for you as you'll just need to hold one sometime, but the finish on mine looks great.  It's a nice shooting gun and I love the trigger.  I have almost 1000 rounds through it now with no malfunctions using various Wal-mart found FMJ.  I've run some of Sig's carry ammo thru it w/o problems and is what I keep the mags loaded with.  It also ate a bunch of the cheap WWB 147gr JHPs from Wal-mart.

I bought a used 229 legion. The finish is nice, the grip is probably fine. It's an attractive pistol with a great trigger and some nice extra machining and checkering. If you like sigs and can afford it you should get it

Replace the mainspring with a 17# or 18# and you will really notice a great difference in DA trigger weight pull.

I have a Legion 226 with 17#.  DA trigger weight dropped to about 6.5#. Never had any issues with light primer strikes utilizing a variety of ammunition.

Congratulations on your 229. The Legions are fine pistols.

Guessing we will never see a 229 sao.
I did get a 226 sao legion and love it. That x5 cut makes a huge difference to me.

I have a legion 229 in 9 on the way. Been reading up on the trigger adjustment.

I read that there are issues with the internals rusting?

Is this true?

Very hard to believe...

I picked up a p229 legion two weeks ago, never really was a sig fan as I always carried striker fired plastic guns but the legion is awesome.

I bought an m11-a1 as a toy and I fell in love with it and ended up carrying it every day for over a year. I went to buy another m11-a1 to have on hand if #1 went down. Ended up walking out with a p229 legion and it is a massive step up from the m11-a1.

If you are a sig guy and can swing it buy it.

the finishes are an issue, they range from incomplete coverage in low points of the rail to blotches possibly anywhere.  really the only weak point of the Legion line up.  My LGS is a Sig Elite dealer so I have seen a lot of these guns.

triggers on all the models are also inconsistent, but that is true on almost every gun offered for less than $1500.

I like my P226 SAO and P229, although I need to install a lighter hammer spring on the P229.

Picked mine up today.
Thing was dunked in assembly lube and shoved into a plastic bag? Mags too!
Not kidding, it was dripping.

After a thorough cleaning, mags too, it looks good. Finish is uniform. No blotches or spots. Breach face is bare metal so I hope it doesn't flake or chip.
DA is heavy but smooth.
Off to shoot tomorrow.

Not a Legion but I picked up my P220 Emperor Scorpion 10mm recently and it also has the PVD finish, but in FDE. Finish looks fantastic, can't find any flaws in it. It was also in a bag with a generous amount of oil.

Finished my range trip. 150 rounds of freedom 115gr. No issues of any type. Very accurate.
I had to keep re-griping after double action fire. Trigger seems too far forward.
Want to like it but my cz07 feels better to me.

I too long for a 229 SAO Legion but agree it will never happen.

My p226 SAO Legion is perfection and the reason I got the 229, even though it is DA/SA.  I carry my 229 but would much rather have the safety and 226 SAO trigger quality.  I am not one of those people that think a safety is some sort of massive obstacle to overcome.

Looking at SIG's lineup they clearly view SAO as a competition/range only action as it is only found on full size guns and extended barrel/slide models.  DA/SA is viewed as the "carry" action and the 229 being a compact 226 means I sincerely doubt we will see SAO on it ever.

Is popular demand is what will ultimately trigger (no pun intended) Sig Sauer to produce a P229 Legion SAO, there is no lack of that...

After this thread and some others rave reviews I found a deal on a SAO Legion. Trigger seems great but I have not been able to shoot it yet.

Anyone run a threaded barrel and suppressor? Sites will be to short with a can but doable.
Who has the best deal on a threaded barrel and extra mags?

I run the 18 and 20 round Mec Gar mags.  Usually get them from 44 mag or greg cote.
