So with all the options one can get with the 226, which one to get? 9mm
I am looking on the used market. WG 226 $600 and under most everything else is higher. I have seen MK25 for $700-800 and Legions ranging $800-1000. So is the extra cost worth it? Do you really get a better gun? At times a rail would be nice to have. The stainless slide would be nice. |

SIG slides come in two flavors - folded with a pinned breech block, and stainless. If there's a flat area ahead of the ejection port and has a visible block insert from the top of the slide, it's a folded slide. There's nothing wrong with them, they just have different maintenance practices and schedules than the stainless slides. Some say the folded slide balances better...YMMV.
The SIG rail is sort of proprietary...the "Combat" series guns have proper 1913 rails. The "normal" SIG rail isn't a 1913 spec rail, though some things might fit on it. |
| Slides on the new models are stainless. The older ones were folded carbon. I have a mk25 and while it's a great gun but the worth is subjective. The mk25 has a anti corrosion coating inside that will for most people will not be worth it unless you are near salt water a lot. It does have the standard rail but it's also hard to find holsters for it because of that. Some will fit both but currently I am waiting for waiting list for one. It also comes with a extra mag, night sights, and a fancy sticker which clearly adds horse power. In the end I like it but if you find a good deal on a p226 you won't be missing a lot outside of the standard rail which is a mixed bag with holster compatibility. Still my favorite gun. |

I have a Sig P226 Elite it came with the SRT trigger, night sights, etc. Mine came with crimson trace grips that I guess the previous owner had put on but I took them off and put standard Sig grips and threw the CT grips in a parts bin.
The Enhanced Elite (has the E2 grip), MK25, or Tac-ops would be my choice if I was buying another one. Some models have the front cocking serrations like the Elite models, some have different grips, and some have the SRT trigger. Main thing you want is one with a SRT trigger but that can be upgraded for around $50. |
For that amount, get a 226 police trade in 40, then caliber exchange kit in 9mm. Sig had the exchange kit on sale for $300 recently (might still have it). And with funds left over you could pickup the 357 sig barrel. Then have all 3 calibers that can fit the gun. Food for thought.

| If it was me 1k would get me the mk25. However again as I said above it might not be worth it for you. You could get a 226 and put night sights on it and be very happy. Also AIM surplus awhile back had police trade ins mk25 for 550. The one I got to have a backup looked barely used. Only wear was on the barrel hood and it was minor. While those are sold out, just keep your ear open and it's possible another run will come. |
I just sold my German 226 folded 9mm da/sa locally yesterday for $550. It had new Ameriglo Hackathorn night sights, new springs including both mag springs, a cheapo fobus paddle holster, and extra Wolff hammer springs. It was listed here for two weeks and I never got a sniff of interest.

| Get the best 226, the older west German made ones in 9mm. You can find them used for about $550. Will be as accurate as any sig, or better, and will be more reliable. I have two and they’re both extremely accurate and have never had a problem. Then buy some mecgar 18 rnd mags |
