Anyone know where I can get a heavier than factory recoil spring for
a P220R3 Carry Elite? I get a lot of failures to feed, thinking my loads are too hot, cycling slide too fast. |
|
I've been running a 230gr Zero JHP with 8.4grs AA #5 lit by Wolf LP Magnum primers.
On the hot side, touching +P level. I have a bunch of magazines bought used, now thinking the springs need replacing. If I stretch these mag springs, then problems seem to disapear for 2-3 mag full. |

It is very odd for a P220 to exhibit problems.
I would not simply shove in a heavy recoil spring, especially given that a P220 normally comes with a relatively heavy recoil spring. A heavy recoil spring will only slow the slide down going to the rear, it will speed it up going forward. Is this a new problem that just showed up? |

I'm fairly certain that you've found your problem right there, and it's not a recoil spring issue at all. |

Get a .44mag, 45LC if you want a big bore supersonic round. Otherwise keep .45acp subsonic. I've never had a ftf with my 20+ yr old P220 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v38/Joe_556/Mobile%20Uploads/image-5.jpg I have a 44 Mag, thank you very much. |

Well the new magazine springs from Wolf have cleared up the failure to feed issue.
Interesting note: in two newest mags, can now only load 7 rounds while the older mags will take 8 but it's a job getting that 8th round in. New problem: had about half dozen failures to go into full battery, by about an 1/8". Have thoroughly cleaned and lubed pistol, will test again today if rain stops. |
