Thank you in advance for your help.

I want to know the answer to this as well, however I think your question does not provide all the information.

Does a 9mm P226 magazine work in a 9mm P229?

Does a .40/.357 P226 magazine work in a .40/.357 P229?

For the 9mms I think there were series changes, but I don't know the details because I don't use 9mm.

I would like to know for the .357 myself.

Yes they do. 9mm 226 mags will work with a 228, 229 and the 229-1. I have done so for years. My duty gun is a 229 and all my spares are 226 mags.

My MecGar .40/357 P226 Sig mags do fit and properly engage the slide stop in my P229 .40 with a little wobble left to right. I won't see the range any time soon so I can't speak to reliability.

I use my P226 mags all the time in my P228 they only stick out barely half an inch.

It actually depends if both share the same frame. If you have a 229 E2 model, the mags and magwell are wider than the standard model. A 226 magazine would fit but would also wobble in the magwell and not fully be secured.

How about a P226 extended magazine in a Legion P229?

It wobbles at the bottom, but it is secure .   The top portion of the mag is the same and locks up just fine.    Never have had a malfunction
