I just picked up a 320 Carry, have not had a chance to get to the range yet but the feel, size and Trigger sold me ( I never thought I would put my 226 in storage but if this 320 shoots as good as it feels the old girl is going into nite nite land I do have a holster question, in reading the other threads in here on 320 holsters I see most guys are using Kydex of one sort or another. I have always preferred leather but nobody seems to have 320 holsters in leather. I did notice that 250 was printed on the cheapo holster that SIG included with the pistol, does that mean holsters made for the 250 will work with the 320 ? Also, is anyone having any finish issues on your pistols metal parts with the kydex holsters ? Thanks.. |
| The 250 and 320 grip modules interchange so all the holsters are the same. When I first ordered Safariland holsters at work for the 320 the ones they shipped have 250 listed on the inside. I've had my work one in a kydex holster since I was issued it in October. Pushing 3000 rounds through it and don't have any serious holster wear. David |

The two guns are very similar, but not exactly the same. The slide on the 250 is a little fatter and more squared.
The kydex holster I had for my 320 wouldn't interchange with the 250, but leather probably wouldn't be an issue because it gives more. Eta: I've used high noon holsters for most of my leather for some time now. They make a great holster and have P320 options. The slide guard is 15% off right now as well. |

Very informative Chainsaw, thanks.
I have been Leary of Kydex ever since my new 229 lost all its trigger guard finish about 10 yrs ago, It may have been the pistol finish itself as I sent it to SIG and received a new pistol in return. I do have an older Wilson Combat 1911 paddle kydex holster with a suede lining that I use the hell out of and that I love.. maybe I should give Kydex a try again not to mention that leather holsters for the 320 do not come in many flavors.. |

I'll speak to holster wear as I make holsters and get this question often enough. Everything will wear if you use it. Leather, Kydex, Plastic, or nylon, they all can/will abrade the finish over time. Kydex has a couple advantages in that it can easily be cleaned and you can lubricate the inside to reduce friction. Leather and nylon have the benefit of flexing so if dirt or sand gets into the holster it scratches less in the beginning. They also don't clean out. Dirt and sand get inbedded in the fibers and continue to build up and wear on the finish. Kydex and plastic are easy to clean if they get dirty. Just wash and dry. No, not in your dishwasher. The problem some people see with these wearing the finish is how well the holster fits the gun. Too tight and it wears on those points. Too loose and it rattle wears as it constantly shifts around. Most custom Kydex holsters are built to tension fit on the trigger guard. So you will see glossing or wear there the most. Some guys don't properly prep critical and less critical areas like the ejection port, cocking serrations, and control parts. This creates additional retention (drag) points. This is my competition P320 I started running last month. I have thousands of draws out of a dry (unlubricated) holster and gun. I also use this gun for test fitting P320 holsters before we ship. You see just a hint of gloss on the slide high points. This may or may not come out with a good cleaning. http://www.arestactical.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/IMG_2694.jpg Please IM or email this question |
| I got a FDE P320 compact fairly recently, like within the last two months and I carry it in a Comp-Tac MTAC. The slide on it is getting beat up from that holster. The FDE looks like it's coated over the standard black, so there's not bare metal showing, but it's noticeable. Again, I don't think there's any corrosion issue cause it's not exposing the actual metal but you know it's there. Seems to me mostly confined to the kydex part of the holster and I tried wiping it off to see if I was maybe getting a little plastic transfer but it didn't seem to help. YMMV. Like the gun though and I like the "slightly worn" look, means it's out getting some use. |
