A few weeks ago I decided to upgrade from my pocket carry P238 to a P938. I picked up a brand spanking new P938 Equinox from the LGS. I have been traveling quite a bit for work and have not had a chance to get to the range to test it out thus far. However, the possible problem I'm having is that when I chamber a round with a full magazine and then release the magazine (to insert another round so that I can take advantage of the +1 capacity), a loose round will fall out of the bottom of the mag well. I have not experienced this problem with my P238, P226, or any of my other handguns. It is as if the second round in the magazine is being prematurely released from the magazine. I should probably mention that this occurs with both the 6 and 7 round magazines. Is this something that I will need to send back to Sig to have checked out before I take it to the range?

had this problem, with another firearm from another manufacturer in another caliber.  That manufacturer was also one of excellent repute, and this firearm, when I got past the "problem" of the "top off drop", never malfunctioned.  Consider this....when do you drop the magazine and add that final (initial) round?  how does this situation endanger you?  Do you ever experience an attempt by the gun to chamber two rounds?  I think you have no problem of circumstance, while I do sympathize with  you and realize you can be in a frustrating situation.  I should add I sent the gun back and the "problem", while not intentional, or optimal, could not be corrected.

Thanks for the feedback. I guess that was a question I also intended to ask. Since the round is obviously leaving the magazine before it should, do I run the risk of it attempting to chamber two rounds at once or cause any bodily harm to myself or damage to the firearm? If there is no risk of either, then I'm satisfied with leaving it as is (although as you mentioned, I'm not entirely excited about it).

My P938 did this the very first time I tried to do what you explained (carry 7+1). It has not happened since, perhaps after firing 500 or so rounds through the 938 its solved the issue? The 7rnd mags were super difficult to get that last round or two in, Ive kept them loaded and now them seem easier to load the 6th and 7th rounds.

SoSlo, your on the right track.  I've seen this before in a small.45 Para.  The mag spring tension is so great that as you load the first round of a full mag the friction  and spring pressure lets the next round slip almost out of the mag.  If I slowly chamber a round in a controlled fashion I could see the next bullet move forward underneath the top one.  The gun didn't do it with every mag, you might try a new/different mag, if you haven't done so.  I would top off the mag in my gun and shoot it without any issue.  Range check your's and see.

Same here.
Seems the spring tension eased after approximately 250 rounds, and no problem since. Smooth as butta' now.
