Sig P226 slide doesn't lock back after last shot. Shooting Federal, WWB, PRVI, 115 grain brass.

It will lock back just fine if I slide it back myself with an empty mag, or manually use the mag catch w/o a mag. Just doesn't lock back after firing a round on an empty magazine.

Thoughts?

I'd call sig and talk to customer service.  I am very skeptical about the springs they have been using lately.  Mass recall on the p238's but they are good about making it right.  I have to ask this but you are firmly gripping the pistol on all shots?

Gripping the pistol just fine. It's an older Sig, 1990 I believe.

Absolutely sure you're not holding down the slide stop with your thumb?  It's very easy to do accidentally if you're used to other pistols since few have it as far back as Sig's are.

I am 100% positive, I even shot it with my thumb purposely not anywhere near the mag catch. This happened with all 4 of my mags.

Humm, I have about 2-3k rounds thru my .40 P226, never had that happen that I can recall.

How old are the springs in your mags?  Do you keep your mags loaded?

You probably need to replace the mag springs.  Not a biggie.

Don't know how old mags are, I have not kept them loaded personally, but it has been proven by many engineers that mags can stay loaded to their listed capacity with very minimal to zero wear on the spring, that's what they are designed to do.

I wouldn't think all 4 mags would be a problem though.

If designed properly it shouldn't hurt to store them loaded, but I have personaly witnessed magazines that developed issues after being stored loaded.  If that happens its time for a new spring.  If the magazines are 20 yrs old like the pistol its probably time for a new set of springs.

ETA: why do you have 10rd mags?

They came with the pistol, not because I live in commy Russia states. I never went and bought hi-cap mags, because I don't know why.

I'd agree that if the mags are 1990 vintage, replacing the springs would be first thing I'd try.

10 Rounds seems so "low capacity"

I have kept my 226 loaded and chambered 12+1 for 5 years now on my night stand, I shoot it frequently...again rock solid. I love my SIG, however this does not help you in any way. Sorry, keep us posted, Im curious

I would just replace all of my mags with Mecgar 18rd optimum magazines.  Might take a bit to find them, but you can put them on backorder at brownells or get on some of the waiting lists.
