| I've heard recently that older Sig 220s have had problems with the alloy frames cracking, is this true? I didn't think so but hey, anything is possible. If so, has the problem been fixed? Also, are there any common problems that show up in the 220s? I'm a first time Sig buyer and I think I've made the right decision, I just want to make sure. 1911s didn't fit me right (can't operate the slide release without changing point of aim) and I don't care much for Glock grip angles and HK is just too pricey. The 220 I'm looking at is going for about 400 (LE trade-in) with FFL fees and shipping. I think that's good. Finish is not an issue, norrells can take care of that, I just don't want to dump $200 into fixing a bunch of parts that break a month after I buy the thing. Thanks in advance for your input. MJD |

In the past, the earlier 226s were built with a thinner frames, (there is enough difference that Safariland uses serial number ranges on their security holsters to denote the difference in fit) and a few did, indeed, crack at the frame rails. That was remedied some years back, and Sig will warranty the older guns should they have a problem, even now. So far as I know, the 220s...even the very early ones like the BDA... have never had that problem, and the .45 is a much lower pressure cartridge than the 9mm as well so it should be less prone to such rail cracks. I would not worry about it...I have two and neither has ever given me a minute's problem. |
| Hi! I have a P220 that's a 1993 model and it was a Texas Highway Patrol duty pistol which went through the academy and many bi-yearly requals. It was handed down by my father about two years ago and I've put THOUSANDS of rounds through it, and it's NEVER stove-piped on me and the frame is still in GREAT shape! No problems here! Good luck and have fun! |

I have 2 P226's, P232, and a P220 My 1st 226, I bought (through my father) when I was 15 In 17 years of shooting (it's my IPSC favorite), approx 25k rounds, This was after I bought it used. I have had the pins changed once and three FTF, one stovepipe when my wife shot it limp wristed, one with a .380 loaded by mistake, and one for unknown reason Best firearm you'll ever own, IMHO |
