I have been looking at purchasing a P220 Classic with the intention of putting the .45 slide on it, courtesy of the exchange kit. I have seen both a "Regular" and "Elite" version of the kit and was wondering exactly the difference is between these two kits. Any and all information would be appreciated.

I'm confused.. the Sig P-220 is a  .45acp pistol, with 9mm and .38 super versions offered in the past and a .22 conversion offered now.... Why would you need a conversion kit to make it a .45? Are you looking to purchase the .22 pistol and reverse convert it to .45?

A friend of mine did it, he said that it's cheaper than buying the .45 and converting to .22.

I did this and found it to be the cheapest way to get both.  Even though I didn't keep the .22 upper.  I sold it to drop the overall cost.  I love having a P220 carry elite-ish(minus the wood grips/front serrate) for around $700.  Left me enough money to find some Equinox grips and a couple extra mags.

Although when I did this there was a coupon for the X-change kit when I got the .22.  Saved a little more off MSRP.

I believe the biggest, most obvious difference is the Elite has front serrations on the slide –– the regular does not. Then you can always get a compact slide. I'm thinking of getting a compact slide for my P220 Combat. I think it would look sweet.

"Sig Sauer's standard P220 Caliber X-change (CALX-220-45-BSS) kit allow you to convert a P220 Classic chambered in .22LR or a P220 Carry to .45 ACP( it already is a 45). This kit includes one 8rd magazine, slide (with night sights), barrel, guide rod, and recoil spring.

The compact Caliber X-Change kit allows you to convert a full size P220 .45 or P220 Classic .22LR to a compact .45 ACP.  ????  Really does it chop the grip to P245 length also?

The Elite Caliber X-Change kit has the elite designation on the right side of the slide along with front cocking slide serrations (not available on standard kits)."

Wow that site is worded horribly!   The exchange kits come in regular length p220 and Carry length.  They make it sound like the regular length is the Carry and you can get smaller with the "compact version"

Guess I was confused... To me "classic" would be the original caliber design.... (full sized/.45 acp) Who would think "classic" referred to a .22 lr sub-caliber version? I guess if the cost of the .22 gun and the .45 conversion kit were right, you could save your self some money going that direction.... I must be an idiot... I bought a .45 and eventually converted it to .22 in order to try and save some cash on ammo... I ended up shooting a ton more and spent the same amount on a different caliber of ammo... Lol, who knew?
