As some of you have read, I'm looking for a p229 .40. I'm finding some differences, though, between years.

I'm seeing a short and long extractor. The shorter being on the newer production guns.

What's the difference between the short and long extractor? Why did Sig make the change?

Is one style more reliable than the other?

Thanks

Summit has some cpo 229s in 40 s&w for $555. You will get a one year warranty with it and they  dont have the rail on the frame. You can get one with rail but I think it is a dak trigger.I daont have a 229 but  I think the short versus long extractor might be overblown I dont know. The long I think is new production  and short is older version I could be wrong.

Thanks. I forgot about Summit. Been looking on G.B. and G.A.

I see some with rail, but without night sites. Guess I can add those later.

Thanks

I'm pretty sure that the long extractor is present on the newest versions. My Elite Dark .40 was built in May, 2010 and it has the short extractor. FWIW, mine has always functioned perfectly.

He's all out of CPO 229's.

CPO's are hard to come by these days. I'll probably have to settle for a used, non CPO, which is fine.

The search continues.

FWIW OP....I have a new production 229 DAK with long extractor.  My department

issues is the same with short extractor.  They both shoot dead nuts on with flawless

reliability.

Yeah, I don't think it matters to me.

Thank you. After some thinking, I decided the rail wasn't something I absolutely needed. His price was better than one other outfit and it INCLUDED shipping. I will need to install some night sights, though.

Finally got my 229 today and put 50 rounds through it. One of the mags, both were in sealed bags, needs some work it seems, but she fires nicely. It's a little snappier than my 228, but not bad at all.

Now I just need to find some Trijicon night sights for it as I don't care for the height of the TFO's. Never seen the Mepro's in person so I may have to take a look at those. I had the Trijicon's on my Sig 1911 and liked them so I may stick with them.

Thanks for all of the info.

If you want to sell the TFO's please contact me. I need a set for one of my P228's. Congrats on your purchase.
