Help me out here guys. So in a couple of months im going to be turning 21! I'm excited that i am going to be able to finally drink (legally) but im even more excited that im going to be able to purchase my first firearm  !!! I've been into firearms for some time now, especially since my dad is a former marine. In the past ive shot AR15s, AKs, my dads Berretta 92FS, and Glocks. Ever since i shot my first handgun, Sig P220, i fell in love with the smell of gunpowder . Ideally i really want to build my own AR, but at this point in my life i really don't have $1,000 to spend like that, buying a Mosberg 500 was also a thought but i believe that owning a handgun gives you more options overall imho. I've been doing a lot of research and i've come to a conclusion that im going to get the SIg Sauer SP2022, not only because of the great price (around $400), but its a SIG !! The only concern that i have now is weither to purchase a Exeter, NH or wait till i find a all German made SP2022 which im not even sure if there is any left out there. It would really be nice to get an all German made one but i dont know if i cant wait that long

Agreed! I have a NH P220 and it is fantastic and I also have a P229 on order. I'm happy to own a NH gun and find the quality to be outstanding.
Sometimes one needs to stop listening to the internet and just go shooting. Many of the people with opinions rarely if ever shoot....simply amazing. |

new exeter sp 2022 owner - jan. 2012 - shot 50 rds of blazer through it the other night straight out of the box without cleaning it . everything worked as expected, and i found the gun to be crazy accurate at 15 feet once i figured out the site picture. for $320, i am very happy with the gun and my decision to buy it. it was definitely an impulse buy for me. it came fitted with the small grip, which is a tight fit with no movement. i like the medium grip but the grip has some QC issues because it moves slightly when i grip the pistol. the replacement medium grip sig sauer sent me to replace it has the same defect. i have read of one other owner of a new sp2022 on the sigforum who has experienced the same issue wth the med grip. i will be using his methods to fix the problem.
regardless of the grip issue with my pistol, i am very happy with the pistol and intend to carry it as my ccw with additional practice. bp |
| I agree with the above... While some people may be a little more critical of SIG pistols recently, the sp2022 line is a great pistol for a great price. If you can, find one nearby so you can look it over before purchase. The German Ilaflon models will command a premium price over the rest. I am more familiar with the earlier version, sp2022, which if found in excellent shape is an older model of a great pistol. |

I actually planned to do what you are doing and buy a metal one when I put a new recoil spring in there. I can take a look at it when I get home, but I haven't noticed any wear on it that concerned me. |

Even on the German 2022s the slide is marked Exeter, however if you have triple serial numbers (serials on the slide,barrel,and frame) then you have a German made 2022. Your 2022 also looks like it has a the Nitrolon slide finish which is something else Exeter 2022s are lacking, and it has a short trigger which is a standard feature on German made 2022s. All that being said, OP if you look around you should be able to find a German made 2022, and even if you can't the ones out of Exeter def aren't BAD pistols, in fact they're damn good pistols and far better than anything else you're gonna find in the price range. |

one more thing you may want to consider is what caliber, 9mm or 40s&w. if you go 40s&w now you can always get an 357sig barrel for it later and just change calibers. if you go 9mm you are stuck with just the 9mm, nothing wrong with it, i have a few 9mm's also.

| Another vote for the SP2022. While a triple serial German would be nice, I've had absolutely no problems from my Exeter 9mm. Smooth as butter and breaks like glass. At it's price point, I think the SP2022 is one of SIG's best kept secrets. You've got great taste. Congrats on your b-day and enjoy your first purchase. |

I just got one on the 11th & love it.
Only sad thing is that I hear it isn't what you want if you ever plan to mount a suppressor on it. That was something I had wanted to do with it. 
But still, it's a fine CCW/target gun. I did hear you can have a gunsmith make a barrell for it to be threaded, but I don't know much of anything about how that works.  Hope it's true & cheap.

Looks like an instense heat mark, but I'm probably WAY wrong. I only shot 50 rounds or so thru it. Just looked at mine, I don't have that kind of mark. I called the factory & they said it was normal. That the entire area I was talking about would be silver looking eventually with use.

I have a several years old 2340 in .357sig. Love the gun but ammo is so expensive I rarely shoot it. I really want to get a 40 or even better 9mm conversion barrel. My brother and one of his friends all bought 2022's for about 450 with night sights. The 2340 does seem to be ever so lightly better made but the 2022's shoot great and the non proprietary rail is nice. |

Dude! Don't worry about it. Just get one and run the sh*t out of it. I got my Exeter, NH model (SP2022) in 2005 and have put around 12,000 down the pipe. No hiccups, lots of shooting in the rain, some suppressor use, sometimes 500-1000 rds or more between cleanings. Its a great weapon and truly under-rated. Find a good deal and don't look back.

I would like to thank everyone for sharing their first hand experiences with this pistol. Just bought one today....I looked at professional reviews but it was the straight up no shit from the actual owners that pushed me over the top to make this my new pistol.
Will take to the range this weekend and put a few hundred rounds thru it. |

I have 20 years in LE, my partner has 30 years in (marine recon before that), we are issued Glocks but carry Sig Pro as personal weapons. You made a fine choice. |
