any good 9mm sigs 500 or under I am interested own many other pistols never shot a sig though I'm a huge Sig fan, but I have to admit that Sig has had a few QC issues since 2004 when a total asshat took over the company. The upside is that their customer service is still outstanding and if you do have a problem, just send it to them and they will make it right. In that price range, I would recommend you get one of the SigPro pistols, they have a polymer frame and hence cost less than their steel frame counter parts. I have a SigPro sp2340 (.40s&w caliber, SA/DA w decocker) and it is without a doubt the best pistol I own, including my Glocks. I would look for a used, pre 2004 Sig and you can't go wrong, you can probably find one on GunbBroker or GunsAmerica if you look around enough. |

If used I would try to get a P228
If new go for the SP2022 I would lean toward a used good condition P228 before the 2022. Not anything against the 2022, it's on of the best values in a very good SIG pistol, but the P228 is a special one. SIG really got it right on the P228. They shoot every bit as well as the bigger P226. Maybe better. |
| +1 for the P228. I picked mine up used with no idea how many rounds it had on it. I've easily put a few thousand rounds down the pipe with a grand total of 0 problems. I've purchased many other guns since the Sig, but I still haven't found one that is as reliable and shoots as well as the P228. |
| S2022 is a great gun that i hear can be found at the box shops for $400ish. But if you want the real Sig you will need to step it up to the 22x series. Once you touch a 22x, especially one like my SAUER 226 that was breathed on by Bruce Gray you wouldn't touch another handgun in your life. But then i love triggers. My vote is save for a real sig. |

You can get a used German made P226 or P228 for $500 or less. Two of the best 9mms ever made, especially the P228. This. You can buy the parts kit from Top Gun Supply for $26 (IIRC) and replace the springs yourself, or send it in to Sig and have fresh nightsights added. You would not only have a solid gun but a [getting] rare piece of history, not some new plastic frame gun made as cheaply as possible... |
