Hey guys I was at the local fun shop today and saw a P6 in the case. I currently carry a P226 and am looking for something smaller (P239 size, but not price) but just as reliable. I am not that familiar with the P6 and have a few questions. The price was marked at $350 and it has considerable holster wear, is that a reasonable price? Internals looked fine, but I am no gunsmith. Also, what are some of the issues with the P6, and is it a good buy overall? Thanks in advance

The P6 is essentially similar to the P225, which begot the P226 (always wanted to say that  ). They have a heavier mainspring the German Police specified, so the trigger pull will likely be a lttle heavier. Other than that it should be as boringly reliable and accurate as your 226. A bit of holster wear isn't uncommon, but check the wear on the frame rails and the barrel just to double check it hasn't been used hard and put away wet often. Price sounds about right.

JG Sales ad that came out this week had them for $330 (though they aren't listed on the website). Most of the P6s imported will have at least some holster wear. $350 right in person isn't a bad deal anymore, though a couple years ago they were $250.
The reliability issue mostly comes in with trying to find magazines. ProMags are usually the only option for extra mags, and they're hit or miss. Original mags are often a PITA to acquire, but work very well. JG used to have them for $18-20, but limited them to one extra per pistol. Top Gun Supply has new P225/P6 mags here, but they cost quite a bit more than the ProMags. The pistols also prefer ball ammo and often don't feed JHP reliably, which is most likely a concern if it's a carry gun. ––- Depending how you carry, you might want to consider looking at a new holster for your P226 before dismissing it as too big. If you're carrying a P226 with merely an acceptable holster, you might find something like a Milt Sparks VM2 would make the P226 more comfortable, concealable, and easier to wear - and you'd keep using your tried and true pistol. And it's cheaper than acquiring a new firearm, but YMMV. |

Barells can be bough or modified professionally or personally to reliably feed hollow points. Just for OPs info...and there are lots of guides on the net explaining how to do it. Also customizedcreationz.com is your addicting friend for P6 mods'improvements.

Had one of the early guns, I think I paid around $250 for it. Nice pistol, worked fine the few times I shot it. A tad bulky for a single stack nine. Factory mags were hard to find and crazy money (and still are). Promags had a horrible reputation, tho I never ran them.
Sold mine for more than I paid for it and never looked back. I also own a 228 so the P6 really didn't do anything the 228 didn't do better. At $250 they were a great buy. At $350 I wouldn't be as enthused. |
| Yeah fellers, after 6 months of loaning this gun out in class and watching it choke on JHP of various manufacturers I think to myself....Hmmm....none of the Glock 19's choke on anything...EVER. My P6 is going with me to the next gun show for sure. It's been a fun 6 months Ms. P6 but to the curb you go! |

Glocks and the P6's s were made in different time frames...The P'6s back in the 70's when they used them with ball ammo. the sig p6 is a nice gun for what it is. I dont think I would choose one for a duty weapon.. and you can work the ramp to feed the jhp Quoted:

I've been thinking about getting one to shoot in IDPA when the course designers set something up to be 1911 friendly. Meaning it works to have an 8+1 weapon. Kind of hard to justify the cost just to screw with the 1911 cult, but I still might do it. Piss on that. I'd rather use a neutered, downloaded Glock magazine and just run the course with Mr. G19.

| mine is marked 5/80, I was initally concerned over all the "no hollow point" and "no 147gr'ers" comments I heard. So i bought about 150 rds of win USA 147gr HP's and a 100 Federal 147 gr FMJ FP's. those were all gone in the first couple of afternoons of plinking, since have fired about anything you can think of through the P6. It has yet to have a single malfunction out of about 900 to 1200 rounds (rough estimate) Maybe I just got lucky, but this little gun lives up to what I expect of SigSauer. Love it. |
