I'm interested in a 36 for carry but am concerned that the recoil may be a bit stiff... I have a 19, 23, and a 26. Also some 1911's...
Any of you fella's shot the 36 much, what do you think about it ?? |
| In my opinion the G36 is about as small a package you could have for a 45ACP. I am shooting 200gr +P .45 ACP in mine and with a good grip it is not too bad. One of the nice things about the .45ACP is there are several good defensive loads to choose from that will give you varying recoil: 185 gr in Gold Dot, Winchester Silver Tip and Hydrashock are some other choices. In addition the good old 230-gr ball is not a bad choice, it’s like getting hit with a musket ball. |

What they said.
I'll add the only issues I've had were with low powered/cheap ammo and/or limpwristing. All of which are alleviated with decent defensive ammo. I shoot a variety of +P's, hornady, gold dots, corbon ect. While they do produce a bit of muzzle flip and stout recoil, I'm sure it is much more painful on the other end. |

Had a G36... Meh... Sold it. The loss of rounds for the miniscule savings in size and weight didn't do it for me.
I have a G30 now. Love it. I looked at a 36 last weekend and came to the same conclusion, If size does not matter go 21sf if you want small 30. |
| If your looking at a .45 I'd say just go with a 30. I carry both a 30 and 21 and imo the 30 is easier to shoot. Have handled a 36 but never fired one. They do make a 30 SF which you may want to look at also. All in all it comes down to what you are comfortable with. |
| I went with the 30 because of the extra rounds and can use G21 mags. I do notice quite a difference CCWing the 30 vs my Walther PPS but I am willing to deal with it for the extra ammo and 45 cal. If you want to go small yoiu might look at the Walther PPS in 40 S&W. 7+1 capacity and very very thin. Took mine to a 3 day pistol class and it shot just as well as my G 17. |
