I just got home with a new Gen4 G19, and have a few questions...
It seems that I may have an issue(keep in mind that I'm new to Glocks). When putting the slide back on, the "spur"(I believe it's the ramp for the firing pin safety) on the top of the trigger bar hits the slide cover plate. I have to cant the slide in that direction to pass the trigger bar, then twist back to center to align the rear slide rails. I've got a loaner G26 here, and the trigger bar on that gun is about an 1/8 of an inch closer to center and lines up perfectly with the slot in the slide cover plate. Additionally, the spur in question has a large dimple on the left side and a corresponding bulge on the outer edge. It looks like someone took a punch and hammer to it. I don't have any pics of the trigger bar but should in a day or two. Also, as a Glock noob, I hope my description and terminology isn't too far off. Next question: Does anyone have a pic of a Gen4 magazine? The mags that came with my G19 have notches for the ambi release. The supposed Gen4 mags that I ordered do not, although they do have the center cutout. Anyway, looking for some clarity on that. Please help.

I think I might have an idea what you're trying to explain. I will take a stab at this with the info you've given.
The raised portion you speak of which has the dimple is the trigger bar riser. The Gen 4 pistols use a different trigger bar which has the dimple. You will see this on the 45 trigger bars as well but not on any prior generation 9 and 40's. The dimple is more than likely added for rigidity of the overall trigger bar by keeping the riser from deflecting outward towards the slide when moving to the rear and depressing the firing pin safety plunger. I'm hearing that the slide seems to be getting stuck at some point when you are putting it back on. The riser WILL be very close to the slide cover plate when you put the slide on. Having to rock the rear of the slide slightly, or even lift up on the rear of the slide slightly to clear the riser is completely normal. If you're clearing the trigger bar riser, and you are talking about the ejector (left side of frame opposite the riser) hitting the slide plate cover, I would say moving the slide slightly to clear it would still not be out of the ordinary. The ejector will have a slight inward bend therefore it will appear to be offset to one side when it first meets the slide cover plate. My guess is your pistol is fine, however, if you cant put the slide back on with ease, remember, lightly moving side to side or up and down, OR- if your slide plate cover is getting gouged, there may be an issue and I would have the pistol looked at. Clean it, shoot it, dis assemble and reassemble and report back. ETA: A true gen 4 mag will have the extra cutout on the side as shown in the pic above showing the metal liner behind it. If your mags dont have this they would not be for the Gen 4. The mags included with your pistols should look exactly as the ones in the pic. If you buy additional mags that aren't gen 4, this would really only be an issue if you were planning on reversing the mag catch but you would otherwise be ok. Remember, the cutout on the front of the mag is for the ambi mag release which may or may not be a thing of the past. I wouldn't be surprised to see this go away at some point depending on Glocks plans of reintroducing the ambi mag catch on future models or speacial runs. |

Thanks for the input so far.
I called Glock on Friday and the tech I got was rather apathetic, he said that the misalignment was normal and essentially blew off my concerns. I called back today and spoke with someone who was much more helpful. Today's tech said that no twisting etc. should be required, grabbed a Gen4 G19 and had no issues with alignment. He recommended that I find a certified CGA locally, and that I likely had a bad trigger bar, or that the connector wasn't seated properly. I should mention that over the weekend I disassembled the gun, examined everything and installed a G17 trigger/bar. The slide now fits the frame perfectly for re-assembly, with no twisting, etc. It might also be worth noting that when overlaying the original trigger bar with the other two that I had access to, the OEM G19 bar does not line up. The bends are much shallower, which would explain why it falls too far right of center(if that makes sense) in the frame. I'll have an armorer look at it in a day or two. In the meantime, I'd like to know if the resident Glock experts see any issues with having the G17 part in the gun? |
