SO i keep kicking back and forth between 19C and 23C for a new carry gun. (currently a j frame .357, and 5 out of a snubnose isnt enough). I haven't shot either of them but the super small 26 size is OUT due to the wife occasionaly wanting to shoot it(and me not liking the extra recoil of the smaller frame). Any comparison side by side for glock vs trijicon NS also would be helpful.

Im leaning toward the 23C but it would be my first .40 and i would have to buy more ammo for it...(and a holster, and a cleaning kit, and a new gun safe, and a new truck to haul it in ... )

19 You can shoot about 25% more for the same money. Modern 9mm give nothing up to the 40 and you get a few more rounds in the gun too....

19 is the way to go. Wife won't complain about the 40 recoil and you probably agree THAT will be the #1 issue to deal with. The 23 is also a great choice to go with and better stopping power. Well place your shots with the 19 and don't worry about the stopping power. Good luck!!!

I've got a 19 and a 23.  I much prefer the 19.  The recoil is lighter, I get two more rounds, it shoots better, has a better supported chamber, ammo is cheaper and as long as I buy good rounds for self defense it will do everything the 23 will do.

I have both, go with the 23 you can get a converter barrel that allows you to shoot 9mm (with 19 or 17 mags) or a 357 Sig Barrel and shoot 357 with the 23 mags.

G23 with a 9mm barrel conversion.

You can shoot 4 different calibers through the G23.

1- 40S&W
2- 9mm (barrel and mags)
3- 357 Sig (barrel)
4- .22 long rifle (conversion kit for $250)

It's a no brainer. Just remember, you can only convert down never up.

I agree on all accounts. I've owned both, and the G19 is the way to go. Especially if your wife plans on shooting it.

As for converting the G23 to the other calibers, why bother? The other calibers don't offer anything over 9mm other than more muzzle flip, lower mag capacity, and more expensive ammo, and each caliber conversion cost an extra $200 in spare parts.

ETA: I also agree that the ported barrel is not necessary on the G19.

G23, no 'c'...

Either way, both great pistols.

I've got both in one gun................G23 w/ reliable 9mm conversion.

Honestly, can't go wrong with either.

ETA:  However, I would also say "no C" though, no need for porting, in my opinion, with either.

I agree on the no C as well.  You will be blinded if you shoot in low light, and don't need that gas shooting up toward your face if you should ever end up using the gun in very close quarters.

Negligible benefits of .40 over 9mm.

I bought all of them in this order: 23, 27, 19C (got a free non-ported barrel from a nice guy, and just picked up my 26 yesterday.

I carried the 23 for 3 years but sitting all day and driving it messed with my back. The 27 worked MUCH better and also shoots SOFTER probably due to the dual recoil spring. I am just as accurate with it too if not more so than with the 23.

I got married though and my wife started shooting and wanted a 9mm so she got an XD and I got a G19. Then I decided to consolidate carry ammo and bought the G26. I get 3 more rounds of 9mm and can keep my more spendy 40 components and load 9mm instead.

I have the 23 and love it, however, if you have to ask then the weaker 19 is probably the caliber for you.

23....no C........could very well be a big negitive having to use it at night.

G23 and a LW 40-9 barrel for $110 and you are more versatile.  .40 for you and a barrel swap for your wife to shoot 9mm.
