Does getting a ported barrel on a glock reduce reliability in the gun in a situation where something might get into the barrel? Don't know very much about them but just looking at the slide cut open like that seems kinda risky.

I don't know why but I'll bite. If you are worried about FOB in a ported glock slide, don't get one. I cc'd a 17C for five years and never got anything but lint in the slide barrel. And the first shot blows all that out. If you are thinking mud or gravel, you are just as likely to get something in the muzzle of the gun.

porting can cause temporary blindness at night when the round goes off.
also, it lowers velocity.
these are things i've read but seem to make sense. i have no experience w/them.

Personally I'd lean away from a compensated barrel due to risk of blast directed toward face & eyes if you have to shoot 'from the hip' or other close quarters situation.

IMHO compensators are best left for competition.

This.

Nothing will get in the barrel through the ports that couldn't get in through the muzzle.
