I saw a recent thread with a similar problem, but my problem is a bit different so I wanted to start a new thread.  I have a 26 with around 800 rds through it.  I do not remember this happening until the last 200 rounds or so.  I have 6 mags that fail to lock the slide back most of the time (maybe 75% of the time).  The mags are: 2 factory 10s, 2 factory 11s (10 with extended base-plate), and 2 factory 17s.  I assume this must be a pistol problem.  Any ideas?

Is your grip keeping the slide catch down? Maybe replace the slide catch?  its a fairly cheap replacement.

Yeah, I would check your grip first. Maybe have someone else shoot it, or you shoot it left-handed.

Then I'd consider replacing the slide stop and see if that works.

parts should not be wearing out at 800 rounds- 8thou maybe. It is likely related to a grip issue

Did you change the slide lock to an aftermarket one?  Sometimes the springs they come with are garbage.  Sometimes the hole is too small and they hang up on the pin.

At any rate, I would check out that spring and replace it.

Make sure the slide lock has some front to back play in it. With the slide removed you should be able to slide the slide lock back and forth alittle. The hole on the slide lock needs to be in the right place, theres a slight grove on the trigger pin that holds it in place. When you lift up on the slide lock it should snap back down pretty hard. If it seems loose replace the spring. Also, make sure the end of the slide stop spring wire is UNDER the locking block pin (the top one). Ocassionaly the end of that spring will make its way over the pin (specially if it broke or worn) or its got installed wrong. Another check is to place an empty mag in it and rack the slide back hard. It should lock back with every mag.

Heres a pic of where that spring should be resting under the locking block pin.
