| Hey everyone, haven't posted in a while and did a search and couldn't find a discussion on this so I was hoping someone could help. My father bought a brand new Glock 26 the other day and on my inspection the guns slide locks back when there is no magazine inserted in the gun. Now I have a Glock 20 and a 23 and I have never seen this happen, I wanted to know if this is the norm of if something is wrong and he should send it in. Thanks ahead of time for the help. |

No, it should not lock back when the slide is retracted with no magazine inserted.
If you look at an exploded parts view of a Glock, the slide stop has a return spring that's supposed to drop it if the shelf in the follower hasn't engaged it. I'm guessing it's missing, or stuck. Quoted:
Sounds like someone let the slide lock spring get above the pin. ETA beat me to it. |

Sounds like someone let the slide lock spring get above the pin. Yep..sounds like it. I agree, or perhaps the shooter is inadvertently hitting the slide stop while firing. (OP, that is NOT a knock on the shooter at all, just that it does happens sometimes. Slide stop spring issue is easy to check, and tons of youtube vids on detail stripping. It's very easy. |
