I picked up a new Gen 4 G17 yesterday for $499.  It came with the three magazines that can accommodate the ambi mag release and the two additional backstraps.  After a strip, clean, and lube, I ran exactly 100 rounds of WWB through it (it was 36 degrees outside).  For comparative purposes, I own and regularly shoot a G19, and we were able to run my buddies Gen 3 G17 alongside for comparative purposes.

Accuracy:

I couldn't see any appreciable difference especially given my relatively novice pistol shooting skills.  It was easy to hit the 6" spinner at 10-15 yards every time.  As usual for me, I tended to pull just slightly left.

Grip / Pointability:

Without adding the medium or large back strap, it has a noticable slimmer feel.  I've read that it's about two mm, and that seems about right.  I have small hands, and this small difference makes it much more comfortable for me.  As has been noted, the grip angle is the same, but just slightly slimmer.  The grip is (intentionally) rough.  After 100 rounds, my hands were roughed up pretty good.  I guess I'll just have to toughen up.

Reliability:

No issues...no surprise.

Shootability:

As would be expected, it wasn't as snappy as my G19, and I really couldn't feel much difference between it and the Gen 3 G17.  Maybe a little less muzzle flip, but my hands were nearly frozen at the time.

Overall, I'm exceptionally happy with it.  Time will tell regarding some of the internal differences noted in more complete threads here.

Sorry in advance for the poor quality cell phone pic...

Thanks for the report - I almost got one yesterday, but decided to hold off.  They are not in short supply in my area I can tell you that.  I hear the Gen 4 G19 will be out in a few months and plan on grabbing one ASAP.  I'll post my review then.  I already have 2 G17's - it would have been a hard sell to the wife....LOL.  I really like the small improvements and am glad they didn't make any radical changes.  I buy Glocks because of their simplicity.  I like the regular grip, so the interchangeable backstrap will benefit my wife the best I suppose.  I am curious if the recoil characteristics are improved and would shorten my split times.  I'm also curious as to what they will do on the Gen 4 G34's.

Nice buy - I'm sure it will serve you well for a long time.

CONgrats on the Gen4 G17. After handling a Gen4 G22 yesterday side by side with next to a Gen3 G22, I can see that the grip is smaller, but it doesn't feel any smaller to me.
