| I bought a glock 17 from a friend's father who is selling off his entire gun/rifle collection. Not because he needs $, just says he's done with gun collecting. Anyway, he let me have it for $300 because he said it was really old, for a glock that is. When stripping it for a cleaning and inspection I discovered that it had a lasermax guide rod and also has some markings that none of my other glocks have. There is some sort of feathered beast and what looks like NPv with the "N" and "P" joined. Also has VTD stamped on it. These marks are on the right side of the barrel portion you can see through the slide. The NPv and beast are also to the left behind the ejection port and to the right of the take down lever on the right side of the gun. On the bottom of the frame is the serial number HY*** US and says "Glock, INC., Smyrna, GA. on the frame as well. I looked up the serial number and it was made in 1989. What generation is it and what do the markings mean. Thanks. |

What I don't understand is why those markings are on the frame but it says US after the serial number. The proofs indicate that the gun was put together and tested in Austria, so is the US after the serial number just a coincidence and doesn't stand for United States? Also, the glocks built in Austria say Made in Austria Ges.m.b.H on the frame, mine says GLOCK, INC., SMYRNA, GA. Why the contradiction? |

you have an old gen 1 G17. see if it still has the black parts in it. If it does you can send it in for the upgrading. 300 is a pretty good deal for it. the lasermax is a couple of hundred by itself. Any pix? Can you tell from the pic if I have parts that were in the recall? Thanks for the help guys. BTW, the inside looks like it hasn't been cleaned in years, is it easy to remove the metal parts for cleaning or should I take it to a gun smith? |

you have some old nite sites there. do they still glow? mine does and the are close to 18 years old. wipe off the trigger and see it is black in color. the new stuff is silver color. I would do a complete tear down and clean it out good. its really easy and you can find vids on youtube.
looking at the pix,you have a Gen 2 and not a 1. still a great gun and worth more than what you paid for it. |

Night sights still glow really well. Wiped off the trigger guts and they are black. Does this mean I should send it to glock and have them install the recall parts? |

I shot mine with the original parts for 19 years and only sent it back because I was sending another Glock for some work. the black parts still work. its going to cost you about 45 bucks to send it to Glock and they will most likely change everything but the barrel/slide and frame. If you have old mags you could send it to them also and they will either rebuild them or give you new ones. I would send it in. |

Your ejector looks bent. Maybe just the way the pic is, but have you fired it yet? Oh, clean that weapon! ETA Maybe that is the way 9mm ejectors are supposed to be. All I have is 40's but still it doesnt look right. Anyone else agree? The 9mm ejector is slightly bent. The .40 is straight. Looks fine. And my GOD clean that GLOCK!!!! |

and the three letters on the barrel have to do with the proof testing date if I recall.
I have a third gen G19 that has all of the proof marks and it has a second set of letters on the barrel AOH, and it has to do with the proof date or something... Please correct me if I'm wrong. |
