Is there a 9mm ammo that is the milspec/LE favorite for rangework like the XM193 is for 223? Ordering my G19 monday and figured I'd look into training, non-defensive pewpew in the meantime.

None per se that's the "standard".

Any quality 9mm FMJ ammo will be good for that gun.  FMJ is cheaper.

If you can find surplus NATO 124grn FMJ, that's good stuff, as it's "hotter" loaded, perhaps more closely replicating the recoil you'll find with your chosen defensive load.

For me, it's a Montana Gold 115 grn JHP over 4.4 grns of Titegroup.

Don't waste your money on the NATO stuff.  It's not any hotter than any other 124 load really.

Use whatever you can find.  The only stuff I ever had problems with were UMC and Speer RHT frangible.

You can't go wrong with WWB. The WinClean is even better. ( Winchester )

I use Winchester 9mm luger  115gr FMJ at walmart its normally $22 for 100 rounds.

Self defense I use Win or Rem 115gr JHP I like the REMs better because they have a deep huge mouth.

I been thinking of getting some +P or some +P+ JHP anyone using this?

I like my women with deep mouths also.

Are you talking generic hollow point from them or what?  124 and 147 Gold Dots are available at ammo to go.

Sellier and Bellot makes a damn fine 9x19mm FMJ. Cheaper than Winchester White Box and just as good. Even lacquer their primers for long term democratization.

Frankly, any 9x19 mm ammo will work just fine. However, you stay away from lead bullets. Also, if you chose reloads, make sure that Elmer Fudd didn't press them out.

Below are my list:

Sellier and Bellot
Winchester
Speer
RWS - Swiss Company
Federal

And, if you have the money, Black Hills is absolutely amazing. If you want the best FMJ, Black Hills is probably it. Dunno if you will notice a difference, but...I do believe that Black Hills Ammunition is a military supplier. Could be wrong on that, but the ammo is way above military grade.

Yeah I get Winchester White Box as it seems to be the cheapest I can find (other than reloading).

Thanks I'll check those gold dots out.

Now to everyone else reading

For range practice I've been told any 9mm luger factory rounds will do fine.

For self defense if you really wanna stop a boar with 9mm DRT rounds are pricey but grossly devistating on impact. A few blackwater reps live by those DRT 9mm or .40/45acp.

I haven't purchased any of the compressed powder core rounds yet but I am soon as I can justify at least buying 200 9mm cheapest I seen them lately is CTD

9mm, DRT, Hollow Point, 124 Grain, 50 Round Box Fine Powder Core, Lead Free, Accurate and Deadly $45
9mm, DRT, Hollow Point, 85 Grain, 50 Rounds per Box Hollow Point, Copper Jacket, Powder Core $30

WWB for me since I don't reload 9mm. I have also shot CCI Blazer Brass and Federal Champion carried by Wal-Mart with good success. I was unimpressed with the box of Wolf ammo that I tried a while back.

lol i remember those DRT rounds when they first started showing up.  some of the most hyped up nonsensical bullshit ive seen, almost as much bullshit as the hollow points with the vents in them.  when it comes to choosing a self defense load, i take my advice from a Doctor performing scientifically sound tests, and not some guy who lives by them.  people lived by the silvertips, and the hydra shocks too.  those people are dead.  those rounds are sub par to say the least.

please, this is posted in the ammunition section, and i dont know how many times i have linked people to it.

if its not on that list, its not the best out there.  also read the parts regarding velocity and barrel length.

Quoted for the truth - I use Cor-bon DPX 9mm and like it - any of the quality loads in the "best choices" section will do you just fine for self defense.

As for training ammo, I shoot whatever's cheapest.

When placed between the shirt pockets, virtually any ammo for a 9mm does quite well.

Placed elsewhere at random, it should be from a rifle and repeated as needed.

Practice Ammo:

*Cases- any range pick up or fired brass, FLR, ream primer pocket on first reloading, expand
*Primer- any small pistol, CCI, WSP, FedSP
*Bullet- Remington Midway bulk 124 FMJ RN by 2000 boxes cheapest or Natchez or elsewhere
*Powder- Bullseye Pistol Powder
***4.5 grains for 1150fps about like European 9mm124grain loadingsi.e., zippy (MAX with Bullseye).
***4.0 grains for 1025fps that is a nice mild reliable loading.  Feels like WalMart 115 WW FMJ.
***3.5 grains for 900fps about like the mildest 9mm that will usually function a Glock M17 (nice for oldtimers, girls, girliemen, and kids)(MINIMUM loading for 9mm124FMJ.  If too slow, take it up a 0.1 or 0.2 grains.)
*Seat- 1.13"

I've used CCI Blazer 115-grain FMJ for practice (usually every two to three weeks) and several handgun courses over the past five years without any problems.

For training, I tend to use good ol' el cheapo Wolf.  The Glock will eat it all day.  For carry, I use Golden Saber 147 gr. by Remington––because that's what the funstore that I haunt carries the most of at a quasi-reasonable price.

For range shoot whatever you can find the cheepest.

For the LE/MIL guys they shoot whatever they are issued, so they don't really have to worry about $$$. I know this because a Federal LE agency came in recently to do their quals and they were all shooting Federal HST's. Talk about some serious cash, especially when they shot about 3000 rounds of it.

The local Wal-Mart carries Federal Champion 115gr fmj for $9.47/box of 50. Not bad for getting some trigger time and a bunch of decent brass to boot.

I've had awesome luck with the Remington UMC 250 rd pack.  Accurate and pretty clean.  Best deal I've found up here.  Wal-Mart (as much as I hate shopping there) has the cheapest price in Alaska.
