Pardon if this is an FNG question... but I ordered The Complete Glock and it skims over this so fast it really does not explain this to the detail that I want to tear my gun apart. I have a G22 that I want to put the exteneded mag release on. I have the new mag release, ordered the dvd in hopes I could quickly change this out. My G35 came with the extended mag release and is very nice. The dvd doesn't appear to go into much detail on either getting the spring out or putting it back in. Does anyone know of a detailed (with pics possibly) step-by-step procedure on how to do this?

Common screwdriver, pry the spring over to the slot and then up and out, slide old mag release out, slide new mag release in, pry spring over and into slot. The spring does not actually come out of the pistol, just out of the little slot you see in that area.
If you use this pistol for carry I would not use the factory extended mag release. |

I put an extended release on my carry gun (G27) and found that during the course of the day the extended release would depress enough to unlock just from normal movement. This happened a few times, at which point I changed back to the factory release on all of my weapons. I only had this happen when using an IWB holster, but the fact that it happened at all was enough for me. |
| I'll definitely keep this in mind. Like I already posted, I use my G23 for ccw, and if I ever use the G22 for ccw I'll change the mag release back to the factory one. What is happening is I have been either taking a friend or one of my sons to practical and I use my G35... so i have been letting my guest use my G22. Invariably changing mags is an issue. My G35 has an extended mag already, I don't have that problem. I bought an extended mag release with the Glock dvd and it skimmed over the procedure so quickly with no real good description on really how to do this. Yes, it appears simple, but to someone who has not done it my apprehension of making my gun unusable was too high - and I've found arfcom is EXTREMELY useful for this type of thing! |
| If you decide that you do want an extended mag release, the Vickers mag release is just long enough to give you lots of extra "mag release power", but not long enough that if you lay the pistol down on its left side on a flat surface and press down, the mag will pop out. So in other words, not long enough to inadvertently release during carry. |
| I actually prefer the extended mag release on my carry pistols. I have to push really hard on the Glock while its in the holster to get it to eject the mag, so hard that its not likely to happen during my daily routine. I don't really find the EMR all that extended. Luckily parts are cheap so if I find I have a problem its a cheap easy fix. |
