My friend just bought a used G17 first generation, that looks new.  He is getting some light strikes out of it.  We have cleaned the striker channel throughly twice now and it is clean as a pin but yet still produces lite strikes, not alot but they are there.  Now I am assuming this gun could be well 15 years or so old, could the striker firing pin spring be shot??Would this be the first thing  you would replace or would you replace the entire strker assembly itself.  It looks perfect.

What else should we be looking for also?

Was there ever a flat coiled striker spring like the recoil spring??

Replace the striker spring and while you are at it the guide rod/spring it could be preventing the slide from going into full battery.  That should fix it and cheap to fix.  Start their if that does not fix it check the striker to make sure the tip is not malformed or not to spec in length.

Yeah, try replacing the Firing Pin Spring first.  If the Firing Pin seems damaged or worn at the tip, replace it too.  They're cheap.

As said above, might as well throw in a new Recoil Spring assembly for good measure.

If the gun is 15 years old and never worked on I'm sure that if you send it to Glock they'll update all the parts for you.

thanks guys, I just got back from shooting with him and sure enough out of 50 rounds 4 lite strikes. rtook those rounds and loaded them in my PM9 kahr and bang every time .  Kiinda embarrassing tosay the least.  He is going to order a new striker spring. We took his out and the striker spring looks very much like a flat coil sprig.  Was this in the original G17".  today they are round coils. This spring looks flat, not as pronounced as the recoil springs but it certainly didn't look round like my G19 sprng.

I willhave him order a new recoil spring also.  I am pretty sure it goes into batter but springs are cheap...

again thanks.  I appreciate it and I know he will also.

I'm guessing his Firing Pin doesn't seem worn at the tip.

Cool, keep us informed of the progress.

doesn't look it.  We have since found ot that the previous owner had some action/trigger work done on this G17 and we think that maybe he even installed a 4# striker spring in it.  as soon as we get the partsin we ordered and test it out, I wol report back  thanks guys fo rhte advice to..

got a new factory glock striker spring and when compared to  the one we took out, the Glock spring was almost twice as long and upon further examination we could see that the previous onwer didn ot put a 4# striker spring in, he just clipped off the factory spring and I would assume guessing all the way to.

It now works perfect, like most glocks do.  Thanks guys for the nice tips...

Indeed, good to hear the problem was solved.  Easy and cheap, eh.
