Gents,

I just got a new G26 (Serial Number starts with N) and noticed the factory front sight is different from my other Glocks.  Not the "punch out from the inside of slide" type.

The sight is plastic, but has a plastic "screw" that appears to go up to the top of the sight.  The screw is compatible with my (unknown brand) front sight tool that I have used to install lots of MeproLights.

I will install Novak/Trijicon sights probably next week and want to know if there is a way to remove this front sight with no damage.

Any help will be appreciated.

Hey..nice catch.  I just picked up a new G17 RTF and it has the same new sight.  Sweet.

Got a clue on how to remove the front sight?

You say the screw on the bottom of the front sight is the same as your tool for front night sight installation. Can you not unscrew the factory front sight with the tool you have?

I havent tried to unscrew it yet.  Im hesitant to apply torque to the plastic screw.

This sight is very nice... in fact its a HUGE upgrade of the previous front sight.  I want to preserve it in perfect shape if possible.

ETA: looking at it from the top, the "screw" appears to lack threads at all... go figure.  It appears to be some kind of pin.  I wonder if it just can be pushed from the top???

It is a screw. Use the tool.

Yeah, I think you just need to go ahead and get after it with that tool. Once you put a steel night-sight on there, you won't put the factory back on anyway.

You are right Hero... but I want to preserve it anyway.

So, if its just a screw, next week it will be out... once my new night sights show up.

my G30SF had a hex head screw holding the plastic front sight in place similar to the screw that trijicon night sights use

1. Remove plastic sight
2. Do not preserve said plastic sight
3. Replace with steel sight

I've removed two such sights to replace with steel sights.  The new sight is plastic just like the old ones but the screw is metal.  You can use any of the tools for installing Trijicons, etc, to take it off.

I had the loose staked front night sight replaced on my 19 by Glock; it came back with the new screw-secured night sight.

When I bought my 19 some months ago from Ed's near Atlanta they indicated that they were short on front night sights as Glock was in the transition then.

Yes, just unscrew the thing, OP.

It is interesting that Glock is upgrading front sights now in their design.  About time, as the way the front sight used to be attached was one of the only weak points in their design.  Good on 'em for changing that, apparently from now on.
