| Stopped by one of the local Fun Shops today and found a nice G19 with stainless barrel and guide rod for $389 used. It has some finish wear but it looks in great shape. I put it on layaway. I made sure to get the serial # so that I could do some research but I can't seem to find the prefix anywhere to ID the pistol. The prefix is (ARX). I want to find out if I need to send it to Glock for any upgrades when I get it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

it was definitely made after the G19 factory recall which I think was the two letter prefix DX and below so any three letter serial number is for certain post recall
what worries me when I see stuff like an aftermarket barrel is what else they might have done, the metal guide rods are not better, they are worse because the prevent frame flex that the gun is supposed to have, sometimes people put lighter springs on those things which can decrease reliablity, etc. and don't even start with all the things people do to trigger groups, cutting coils off striker springs to make the trigger lighter, and other assorted stuff that is probably fine on a competition gun and stuipid on a street gun...if you can find an armorer to go over it that would not be a bad thing, or attend a GSSF match and they will return everything important to factory spec for you for free... the majority of the button rifled stainless barrels are good for shooting lead bullets and not much else improves, they are less corrosion resistant than the factory tennifer barrels... |

Serial number prefix ARX indicates it was built in November of '93.
You should be long clear of any design changes or "recalls", as far as I can tell. No real reason to replace everything inside. If the parts are in good shape, and the pistol runs as it should, you're good to go. Recoil Spring Assembly, yes, for good measure. They're cheap of course. My G17, for example, was built in January of '90. And I carry the thing everyday, it's a great pistol. Only things I've replaced in it are the Recoil Spring, Slide Lock Spring (not to be confused with the Slide Release Spring),Firing Pin Spring Cups, Firing Pin Safety Spring, and the Trigger Spring (only because I prefer a NY1 spring there). I've put a little over 1,000 rnds through it myself and have never seen it malfunction, and have seen no signs of undue wear. ETA: I did change the front site also, put on a red Fiber Optic, but that was also just personal preferrence. |

It would bother me that the barrel is not factory. It doesn't come with the original by chance? Yeah, no doubt. In my haste to help, I missed THAT! What kind of barrel is it? Is it possibly the stock barrel, with just the black finish polished off? Folks have been known to do that from time to time...................... If it appears to be a quality barrel, even if it's aftermarket, as long as the gun runs well, I don't see too much wrong with it. Love to see pics if possible. |

If it were all factory I'd say it's a good deal, but due to the possibility of the gun having a after market barrel I would stay away from it for that price. There are plenty of G19's out there and it would be only a matter of time before finding one in very good shape for around 400.00.
I have a couple Glocks I bought that were LNIB and paid 399.00 for them, these are 3rd gen guns. I have a 2nd gen G17 that I bought with box, 4 mags in excellent shape for 300.00, I know these kind of deals don't come along often but they are out there. |
