I have a G21 I bought several years ago, it has no rails, I think that makes it a Gen2 from what I've read.

Does anyone have a decoder ring on the differences between the different generations?

Thanks for the photos, very good.

So If I get this right...

Gen 2 changed the grip friction

Gen 2.5 added finger grooves to the grip

Gen 3 added a forward rail

Gen 4 changed the slide friction and the grip friction (again)

So mine's definitely a Gen 2 based on this.

gen 4 has not been released yet. Glock at shotshow this year said that the RTF isnt gen 4 and to be paitent and they had something special planned for the gen 4 glocks.

also there are internal changes such as the extractor having the LCI grove.

Correct, there is no 4th generation yet. The RTF is an option, just like the SF.

Yep. The 4th gen is not out yet.
Glock Reps at the 2009 SHOT show said, RTF is just a frame option for the 3rd gen Glock frame.
Same as the OD, SF and MB are just frame options for the 3rd gen Glock frame.
