Guys,

I just bought a G19...and it seems fine.

My dad thinks he wants the G19C. Is the only difference the two ports on top of the barrel/slide?

Is it worth it?

Yes, the only different is the ports.

Is it worth it?  No.

Owning both, I find the ports to have neligable down sides, and even less benefits.

I am not really sure why you would want/need the C on a 9mm.......not enough kick to warrent it...but that is just me.

Yes, that's the only difference.

If your Dad's intended use for the pistol is concealed carry and/or home defense, I'd say no. Ported pistols add unwanted flash that will negatively effect you during low light scenarios. Also, if you have to shoot from retention, there's the possibility of burning a few body parts.

However, if it's just to plink at the range, or he has bad arthritis, then maybe. The recoil difference between a standard and ported 4" 9mm is so negligible, that I doubt you'd be able to tell the difference in a blind test.

No interest in the ports whatsoever.

I have used a Glock 19 and they are easy to handle.. I have pretty big hands so for comfort I had to go with the Glock 17.. The only thing I would have ports on is a 40S&W due to the punch it gives, It has more recoil then a .45 I am really not a fan of the .40S&W due to that fact and that you can do just as much dmg as a 9mm with Personal Defense ammo like Federal Hydra-Shok or Gold Dot..

So back to the point.. The Glock 19 has proven to be serviceable but in my case (comfort wise) I cannot get a good grip on it.. I would even say the Glock 9mm Sub Compact would not need ports.. but its all up to the shooter's hand size and if he can put a good grip on the gun.. So I would say if you think you might need a ported Glock 19 maby you have med/large hands and should be going with the Glock 17 in the first place.. I was all for the Glock 19 but after shooting both, the Glock 17 is just much better for med/large+ hands..
