Does it make anyone else mad when you shoot a few rounds through your Glock and then figure out that your light is worthless because of a nice "powder coat" over the lens.  Is there any way, other than putting a filter on it, to keep this from happening?  I would hate to have to use my Glock at night and have my light become useless after a few rounds.

thanks

Get a longer Glock, 34 35 17L etc.

Or use your shirt to clean off the lense...

Longer barrel = clean front sight, clean light lens, clean laser lens

Oh, and a little gain in velocity and accuracy, you can shoot lead, and better chamber support.

+1 Is this w/ cheap practice FMJ's or have you tried it w/ quality ammo?(HST's, GD's, Ranger's-cleaner burning powder/less flash)

I'm shooting Black Hills 230grain JHP stuff that I am given.

Do the Tritium front sights still glow pretty well after a feww mags when they are coated?  I am new to the Glock world.  I have just switched from my Kimber 1911 to the G21 and never had this issue before.

Would the problem with the light go away if I bought the X2 Compact pistol light?

My GTL 10 will coat only on the top half on my G17 and after 250 rounds of dirty UMC's it is still quite bright. NO experience with the .45 caliber version but it seems like the GTL 10  has enough recess and overhang that shrouds the lens. Also wiping the lens with a shirt permanently stains the lens... not that bad tho

My Operator front sight (Trijicon) becomes useless after 250 rounds...

My G17 with Trijicons don't get any powder on the Lens cover...

I'll try the GTL 10.  Thanks for the help.

I wonder how hard it would be to make little tearaway strips for the light, like on dirt bike goggles?

Thought of that too, or a shroud like a baseball cap bill...

I was going to experiment with a thick black rubberband around the lens as a shroud, I'll PM you about what I find out.

When we shoot our duty G21's with the TRL-1's mounted at night, even shooting Speer Lawman, the build-up from like 100 or so rounds still allows the light to be pretty useful.  Luckily in a real-life scenario of shooting maybe like 1 mag using pretty clean Gold Dot, it won't be an issue at all.

I have a X300 on my G21 SF.  To be honest mine doesn't coat too bad when at the range.  And my sight is fine too.  The front of the slide as well as about a half inch on the top and sides is where most of the powder sticks.  After 100 rds at the range my X300 is still more than useful.  We use Speer Lawman and CCI Blaser for practice at my dept range.

A light coat of oil applied on the lens will make the wipe off easier during daylight shooting.
Leave it bone dry for duty carry.
I hope you do not get into a firefight in lowlight where the lens is blacked out to the point that is unusable.
During our lowlight qual course the carbon on the lens is a non issue.

My tlr-1 gets coated after around 150 rounds on range ammo, but even when it appears opaque when you turn the light on in low light it's still useable.

If you just want to avoid having to clean the lense, stick a piece of scotch tape over the light on daylight range trips.
