I recently acquired a new Glock 20 and have a question for those of you who also own one.

What 10mm bullet weight(s) would you recommend or describe as "standard"?  This is my first Glock and my first 10mm handgun so everything is new to me.

Thanks.

Honestly anything made by DoubleTap

The heavy rounds that are semi typical are 200gr, the lightones vary bu mfg. Id stay around the mid range of 165+/-10gr

180grn Gold Dots from Buffalo Bore is what I carry in mine.

I usually load 180gr or 200gr FMJ's on top of AA#9 powder for range training.

For defense, I usually load 175gr WW Silvertips.

For hunting, I have some Hornady 200gr XTP ammo.  Later on, I intend to load up some XTP's over AA#9 to see if I can get some better velocity.

ETA:  The original Norma 10mm load was a 200gr projo at ~1200fps.

I personally like the 135 gr JHP's from double tap.....I know they are on the 'light' side of 10mm rounds, but check out the ballistics on Dt web site....plus they come out of my 20 as if on a rope......

I carry 180gr Hornady's in my 20 & shoot practice with GA Arms 180gr FMJ.

If I wanted lighter bullet weights, *I* would move to .357Sig, IMO. The whole purpose/benefit for 10mm is using the 180gr bullets @ 1150+ fps, IMO.

200gr horniday xtp over 7.5gr of 800x doublestar nickle cases with winchester large pistol primers.

If you want factory ammo go with buffalo bore or doubletap. I had some federal "self defense" ammo and it was downright weak!!!!!!

If i wanted 180gr I would shoot a .40 short and weak

Congratulations! A little background The original 10 mm load came from Norma and used 170 grain bullet. It was extremely hot, recoil and blast were impressive to say the least. Anyone who shot this load knows what I'm talking about. The 2nd load I was ever able to get a hold of in the late 80s ...1989 I think ? Was a 170 grain Hornady is was also stout. Than the FBI got a hold of this round and gave us the 10 mm 180 grain lite version. Than in 1994 I think the SAAMI knocked the pressure down to the 37,500 level when they changed over to Piezo pressure.

Beware some 10mm 180 grain loads are weak and may not function well in 10 mm pistols. Remington UMC crap comes to mind. As are some Federal loads. For a SD load the 175 grain Silvertips are what I use. For practice handloads I tend to go with the Speer 165 and 180 Gr Gold dot.

Thanks for all the information.

I found some Winchester 175 grain Silvertip HP rounds that I will use for now.

Also, here's a picture of my new Glock 20 for all you Glock fans out there.

Go with the recommendation for the 135 JHP in loaded ammo or cook up your own using 135 Nosler JHP and IMR 800x poweder.  Find the load in an old book or ask a friend or me.  It will put one out from the 6" Glock hunting barrel at near 1700fps.
