So i bought my first glock about a month ago. Just wondering what i should get for her, i know mags and ammo. I like the factory sights. Dont ask why but i like the glock and beretta factory sights, they work fine for me. Seen Some people talking about stainless guide rods and serached and seen there are a few different types out there, ones that are one piece with the rod and spring and then the two piece ones what should i go with and why? Would post pictures but photobucket is not leting me load pictures not sure why

If ya want a stainless rod, the Aro-Tek captive one is great.  Got one in my G23. Not really necessary, but nice.

Other than, a Glock needs no mods.  They are perfect as is.  Stock is best, I feel.

I do have NY1 trigger springs in mine, but that's just my personal liking.

I've had my Glock 19 for about 10 years...  Still factory except for Wolf threaded barrel for my Gemtech Trinity Suppressor...  Carried daily, never an issue of any kind...

They are great guns that really don't need anything but a good IWB holster...

It isn't a matter of liking the factory sights, it is just they are fragile as hell.

Get a pair of Heine straight-eights, they are trijicon nite sites.

Get a Vickers extended mag catch and call it a day.

Don't do shit.  Glocks don't work when you "upgrade" them.

The fact that you don't know what needs to be done is indicative of the fact that you need some training and to put a few thousand rounds through the gun.

What you will most likely discover is that a set of Heinie sights will do the trick. I recommend using a tritium front sight with a black rear.  It is very uncomplicated.  Down the line, you may want to cut the finger grooves off and have the gun high cut.

I also added u-shaped notches at the bottom that help when pulling stuck mags out.

If you get a longer magazine release, get the Vickers designed unit from Tangodown.  Do not get any other extended controls.

+1 on what has been said.  Better sights (if needed) and a good holster.  Save the upgrade money for ammo

Have you ever used any other sights besides the glock factory?  I thought I liked the Glock sights until I shot some Heinies, XS, and Trijicons.  IMO a sight upgrade needs to be done ASAP on glocks with the factory Glock plastic sights.

Trigger, sights, and recoil spring. I primarily do practical pistol matches such as uspsa/ipsc and 3 gun.

Glock trigger have come a long way. We make a trigger kit that has a very crisp, light and positive trigger. Does not feel mushy or there are rubber bands in there like the factory trigger. Trigger reset is also shortened so your able to fire the gun mechanically faster. Glockworx

The factory glock sights are not very good and can definately be improved. Good sights will make it easier for you to shoot faster and with more precision. I like the bomars, dawson precision adjustable, and the henie strait 8 night sights.

I think the glock is over sprung from the factory with a 17 lbs recoil spring. If you went with a 13 lbs ismi spring you'll get more slide speed and it will flatten out muzzle flip. I like the 13 lbs spring for 9mm, 15 lbs for 40 and 45.

Buy the advantage arms conversion mags ammo holster and call it a day.

i always add the improved slide stop and mag release.  A recoil spring guide rod made of metal is a good thing to get too, to replace the plasitc one that comes with it.

I'm all for customizing Glocks.  I have a G20 with over $600 in upgrades.

However, given this point in time, I'd recommend spending all your available cash on mags.  You'll always be able to buy a Glockworx trigger.  You might not be able to buy 15-round mags later on, nor the 33-round G18 mags.

save the 'upgrade' money for professional training.

of course, that's probably going to mean the cost of the 'class' and the cost of maybe 1000 rounds of ammo but, it'll be more worth it than most 'upgrades'.

I'll summarize the consensus above with my own bias - get a good set of metal sights installed, possibly the Heinie (I have the similar Warren on my G19).  Then just shoot it a lot.  Dry fire, too.

Leave your 19 stock. It requires no upgrades. The only thing you need is,

Night Sights
Magazines
Ammunition
Good holster

You might want a Vickers Mag release, but that is all.

If you put aftermarket stuff on your 19, you'll screw it up.

IMHO - If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If the weapon functions the way you want it to, then save your money. The great thing about the Glock pistol is that is a shooter right out of the box... The factory guide rod and spring are just fine the way they are. I own several Glock pistols and actualy have one with a stainless guide rod and a non captive spring - it looks neat, but functions no better than the factory guide rods and springs... Plus it is a pain in the @ss when field stripping the weapon...
