| I am debating on which one for concealed carry, convince me on one. |
|
G19. Great all-around pistol. Easily concealed, yet substantial enough to be what I'd call a "viable defensive sidearm". Much better in the all-purpose role, and again, not that hard at all to conceal. I carry a G23 (same exact size) all day, all the time (unless it's a G17 or 1911 G19 is a great pistol. |
|
G26 is much better for CCW simply due to its grip length. A long grip prints very easily. and it's more uncomfortable when you're seated. I used to use a Pearce +0 extension and I found even that made a significant difference on the G26 (I now use the GAP finger rest, an excellent product). Note that the extra length of the G19's slide/barrel is NOT an issue (I use a G19 barrel in my G26 to get added velocity and I can't tell it's there). If you must have the extra capacity get the G19 (avoid the +1 and +2 mag extensions for the G26). Otherwise the G26 is a much better choice. It disappears under any clothing with a good holster. |
|
Depends on the type of clothing you're planning to wear most of the time you're carrying. If it's anything but very tight stuff I'd say go with the G19. But if you're carrying while lifeguarding in a Speedo, there's only one place to hide a gun and in that situation I'd pick the smaller gun every time. |
|
I own both. If I HAD to pick only one it would be the G19. I'm a smaller framed person and I can still make a G19 disappear - although not as easilly as the G26. But I suppose it depends upon what settings/circumstances you'll be carrying in and what your physique is like. Both guns feel the same comfort-wise IWB - fat. The G19 will also be a little heavier , but with a good holster that's a moot point. I agree with the poster that recomended staying away from the Pearce grip extensions - why bother? If you're going to do that just get the G19. The general Arfcom answer applies here - Get Both. -JC |

I have a 19 and there is a 26 in the family. I really don't see the benefit in the 26. It is a nice shooting Glock, but it is really not much smaller than the 19. And you loose the grip savings if you put a pinky holder on your mags. Lay a 26 on top of a 19 and you will see what I mean. If I am going smaller than a 19, I really want a pocket gun. The 26 is still a little too big for that purpose. A single stack 26 with a thinner slide would be nice. JMHO. |

The 26 with pierce +0 grip extensions still conceals better than a G19.The 26 allows you the option of going bigger with G19 mags,or you can use stock baseplates and slip the 26 into your back pocket when answering the door. I think the 26 is a better choice for CC and the 19 is a better choice if you are only gonna own one Glock,IMO the best solution is to buy a G26 and a G17. |
Just did this last night with my buddy's G23. I have the Pearce +2 extension on my G26 mags, and there is still a significant savings in the backstrap area. It's like having a G19 "Bob Tail Conversion" . . . the 26 conceals MUCH better and handles GREAT with the +2 (and 12rds ain't bad either). |
My experience as well. I have both a 19 and a 26, and the 19 stays in the safe nowadays. Even with the Glock or other brand +2s, that backstrap is much less obtrusive on the 26. The overall physical size isn't different, but I've found a dramatic difference in actual daily CCW. |
Fair enough, but is the G19 hard to carry around all day to begin with? Is the G26 that much easier to carry around all day as to warrant giving up a finger on the grip and having 50% less rounds to fight with? |
If you need more than 10 rounds in a self-defense situation you are screwed anyway. I bought the G27 b/c I can make it the same grip and mag capacity as my old 23 with the A&G grip extender and a G23 mag. Or the longer grip extender and a G22 mag. Even more flexibility. You can always make small larger but you can't make large smaller. But you can't go wrong with either one. |
Me to. G-19 or Kel-tec or j frame. |

Glock 19 Here's my patented Glock rant: If it's going to be used for defense, do the following: 1) Replace shitty stock glock sights with proper steel sights (preferably night sights, preferably XS Big Dot sights )* 2) Don't f**k with the standard parts beyond the sights. Extended slide stops, mag releases, trigger weights and all the other thousands of aftermarket accessories are crap will make the gun less reliable. 3) Personally, I'm a fan of the 9mm glocks - specifically the Glock 19. The .40 round has a severe pressure curve that breaks guns (glocks as well as others) and I don't shoot it as well as 9 or 45. 4) Use FACTORY Glock parts - no aftermarket stuff (except the sights) 5) Get a good holster. I picked up a Raven Concealment Systems holster and mag carrier - very slick, comfortable design and I like it a lot. It has replaced my Comp-Tac CTAC. Additionally, Blade Tech IWB is a good option as well with a lot of users that swear by them). 6) Get good self defense ammo and run at least a box through your gun to check for reliability (some guns are notoriously finicky with ammo - I have heard of VERY few glocks with ammo sensitivity issues FWIW) Look HERE for "Best Choices for Self-Defense Ammunition" 7) Get some formal training with a decent firearms school. IM me if you'd like some recommendations. 8) Glocks are the "AK" of handguns - they tend to work very reliably and go down a lot less than other types of handguns. They ARE man-made mechanical devices and they can break, have jams and get screwed up. This is why #7 is SO important - so you know what to do IF and WHEN something shitty happens. 9) What breaks on Glocks? anything can - I keep a complete spare parts kit in my range bag - springs, extractor, recoil assembly - basically any small parts I can think of 10) Wash, Rinse, Repeat. *Why Big Dot Sights? I've done a lot of Force on Force exercises and scenarios as a student and as a roleplayer. We've used converted Glock 17s - 2 of them with Big Dots and one of them with Meprolight night sights. By the end of day 1, NO ONE wants to use the standard night sights. Under stress (even the mock stress of FOF) the eye has a LOT of trouble focusing on your front sight. With the Big Dot, it provides a MUCH better reference point for where your gun is oriented and where you're going to make hits. At one point I owned every Glock in the line-up except the 25 & 18. I've downsized since then. I use a G17 for IPSC, G19 for uniform carry and G26 for concealed carry. Put the Glock factory +12 extention on the G26 mags. 12+1 in a package still smaller than the 19. |

I have a g19. But a 26 or 27 is my next purchase. I already have a compact, full size and competition model so of course a subcompact is next. I rarely carry my 19 because I can't conceal a 19 well. Unless I am wearing a sweat shirt it sticks out like a sore thumb. The 26 is easier to conceal but with the mag extensions the frame is pretty much the same length as a g19 frame. I ride motorcycles so I want to get a g26 to carry on an ankle holster. |
OAL may be similar, but that doesn't tell the whole story. Look at the above pic. It gives a handy "bobtail" to the frame, which can cut down on printing. |
