I'm thinking about picking up a G26 this weekend and I was wondering if I should
get one with standard sights or the night sights.  The price difference is about $60.

I guess another option would be to get the standard sights and replace them with
some after market ones.

What do you think?

Go aftermarket.

I like Trijicons, and Meprolite. (they're steel, and the front sight is a screw down type.)

The Glock factory night sights are plastic. (The front sight is held in by a small
polymer pin.)

That's my recommendation if the gun is to be carried.

I'm new to the forum, but not new to Glocks.  Factory Glock night sights are made of steel, and the front sight is attached by crimping a hollow tenon, using a special crimping tool.  Glock's never used plastic night sights.

Yep, you're right. (per candace at Glock.)

Don't know why I thought they were plastic?

I got an ex-wife named "Candace".  If that was my ex, she probably lied to you!;)

The Trijicon sights are probably the best for the Glock.

Only the standard sight is held in with a plastic pin.  The factory night sights are crimped in with a special tool.

Meprolight night sights is what I use on my handguns.  I've tried the XS Sight 24/7 Big Dot sights on my G26 and just couldn't get used to them.  I just installed a set of Meprolight adjustable night sights on the G26 tonight.  Anyone want to purchase a used set of Big Dot sights?

To me, the front sight doesn't look too bad and in Hawaii I can't CC so it doesn't matter.

I'm happy with the Meprolights on my G26 that I carry daily.

How do you like having that foot-long front sight on that G26?  Kinda makes concealed carry difficult, doesn't it?    I'm using a set of Mep adjustables on my range G21, but couldn't imagine putting them on a subcompact.

+1 , the front sight is TALL. I have a set of Mep adjustables on my G23 - because the POI changes when I use my conversion bbl - and I use it as my nightstand gun with original .40 bbl. They are however great rugged sights and brighter than my trijicons.

My G26 - carry gun , wears Trijicons , as does my G19 , and I'm quite happy with them. A traditional 3 dot system that glows.

I used to have the XS Big Dots and didn't care for them. They were very easy for the eye to pick-up - in "point shooting" - quick for sure. But I couldn't aimed fire well at all with them. I recomend finding someone with them and trying before buying.

Have fun , shoot safe.

I have both Mepro NS and Glock NS on my two Glocks.
They both work well for me.

I would say for only $60 more go for the factory NS.  Changing out the front sight is a major PITA.  I recently bought a G17 with the factory NS and they're fine.

those xs sights are actually recommended by the tactical response staff I for one don't have night sights on my glock. the chances of getting into a gun fight in such an extreme darkness as to where you would need them are pretty slim. the biggest chance would be a break in or home invasion, and in that case for me at least my house draws a fair amount of light at night. just my opinion, they are nice to have though.

The factory NS are the only ones that are staked. Mepros, Trijicons, etc, are just screwed in. Couldn't be simpler.

The chances of getting into a "gunfight" anywhere are somewhere between infinitesimal and zero; however, if you've ever done any low-light shooting, you'll appreciate night sights.  If you don't use night sights and are just speculating about various s.d. scenarios, then you aren't giving very good advice, are you?

Actually , most gunfights occur during low or no light hours. Almost any good training course or study will teach that. There are statistics to back it up , but I'm not going to bother looking for them right now - I need coffee.

For home defense an attached light or bright handheld is recomended.

+1 on the XS big dots.  Very easy to install, sights are very quick on target.

Check out the tactical response fighting pistol course, take it or watch the video. They will tell you the exact same thing. If telling someone they don't need night sights is 'bad' advice consider me guilty. What would you call it when the situation arises when you fire shots at an individual who fires back....oh yeah a gunfight.
