Hey ya'll, I had a brainstorm... Don't call the fire department if you smell smoke, I have a burn permit.

What would happen if I took the slide release on my G-21SF and bent the tab outward a little bit?

The reasoning behind it is simple. I am having trouble getting my finger on it to use it. I am catching myself slamming the mag into the well to make it chamber a round. My 1911 (sorry, not trolling here) has a release that sticks out far enough to get my thumb on it.

If noone has ever heard of it, I may just have to be the guinea pig.

I've thought about doing this myself.  Not to release the slide for normal use, as I just grip the entire thing, but to make it easier for me to lock the slide back.  I shoot left handed, and I have to use my index finger to manipulate the slide release to either lock or release the slide.

Slide release ?   It's called a Slide STOP
Same as on the 1911

But yes, you could bend it out a bit if you wish.

The factory "extended" slide stop is very low profile and is similar to what your talking about.

I actually try to bend mine in to get it closer to the frame. I tend to ride my left hand up on the frame and it sometimes interferes with the last shot hold open. I have even thought about cutting it off on the outside. I don't use it anyhow.

Leave it the way it is.  If you HAVE to have a bigger slide stop get the Glock extended slide stop.

For the record, the proper way to release the slide is to "slingshot" it.(grip the rear of the slide with your fist, pull back and release - do not "pinch' it with your thumb and forefinger).  Glocks were designed to be used this way - which is why the slide stop is so small.

Glocks are boring, ugly and reliable.  Leave them stock and they will perform well.  "Customizing" them will often result in a loss of reliability.  The only thing that needs to be changed on a Glock are the shitty plastic factory sights.  Replace them with Meprolights, Trijicons or XS Big Dots (my favorites).

Take care and stay safe
Mike

I have an extended slide stop on both of mine.  "Slingshot" is nice and all, but in a high stress situation (i.e. people shooting at you), sometimes hitting the slide stop to release the slide is the only way.

As for customizing, I also highly recommend the Aerotek Titanium guide rod, especially for the Glock 30.  I have had several Glock professionals, including a couple of their engineers, that installing it is one of the best things that you can do to extend the service life of the pistol.  Besides, after installing the new guide rod, I saw my groups shrink considerably.

My 2 cents, YMMV...

You couldn't be more DEAD wrong. Look up gross motor skills and fine motor skills. What is easier to learn and program into your brain?

Single hand reload because your other hand/arm is wounded (shot/stabbed/bashed with bat) or for some other reason injured (broken while skiing, slipped on ice and broke wrist, hot grease splatter and now it's wrapped) and unusable and you are using your strong hand only to reload. Or hell, your weak hand even.

There are other ways still. I can shoot, cycle, and reload with my weak hand only, even if I was missing my thumb. No kidding.

No kidding.Hey, crash.  You sight annecdotal evidence.  I am speaking from personal experience.  Don't let my low post count fool you, I have had some experience with this situation.  Besides I wasn't saying it was the best way, I am just saying that sometimes, it has to be done that way.

I'm not one of those ass hats that talks shit about post counts so don't worry . I understand that post count does not equate to knowledge or experience. I understand that in some situations it might be easier to use a slide stop but it is not necessary.

Hook it on your belt?  Unless it's at night and you wear sweats to sleep, or are out for a run..  I don't think it works all that well with running shoes, slippers, or some sandals either.

I'm left handed and can't use my thumb anyway. And without the use of my right hand, it would be a probably be a lot faster than to use some alternate method.

How about instead of just saying how great you are, share your knowledge and techniques?

I use the hook technique also, belt , shoe heel, holster, etc. For reloading or stripping a stuck mag you can put the pistol under your arm or between your knees. I don't claim to be great I just have been shown other non-traditional methods. There are a lot of pistols out there that don't have a slide stop lever.
