It's not like he's condemning it, he's just saying what I was thinking, which is "That might be a little overboard, for me." It's WORLDS different then asking why you need a gun. If you want to buy 150 mags for each gun you own, by all means, go right ahead. Me, I'm buying guns. I don't think for a minute they'll be dumb enough to grandfather anything in next time. I'm not investing in any big mag stockpiles. Not yet, anyway. |
|
I stocked up before the ban, then made a killing for a year or so after (when the prices skyrocketed), but IIRC we started getting shipments of the things from Canada (?) and apparently new steel from somewhere that were technically pre-ban and they drove the price down again. I'm not worried this time, unless they get some even more draconian and pointless ban through, I think my 6 AR mags will hold me over. But if I had the cash I'd stock up again. I'd buy a couple hi-cap 9's again too. Those sold pretty well the first few years. |
| ouch thats pretty rough to call me one of those people that say why do u need a gun, crap, my first thought when i see that is....the price is gonna go up like crazy when the ban comes in, is this some guy/gals investment plan to make a quick buck? but hell, i said it then and ill say it now, to each their own...i dont really care what each of us to with their own money, hell u make it, do with it what ya gotta do ya know |
|
and here I was feeling all kick ass about the 10 mags I just got in. looks like I am left wanting. I guess I will contact my mag guy and pick up some more.... I have a g27,23 and 22. Gues sI am going to just get more glock 22 mags since they fit everything. Maybe a few more of those hella expensive glock 29rnd sch mags too. |
I think he was asking why someone would spend so much money on mags. I feel the same way. I have a "good" number of pistol mags for all my pistols but not any more than I could reasonably carry at one time. If it is a hedge against a ban/investment/etc, fine, I get it, good on you. Otherwise, you have more disposable income than I do... |
No, the companies that mined the ore and synthesized the plastics. ![]() I'm talking about our local businesses who are selling them. |
|
Watch the Supreme Court come out with a ruling that says bans are unconstitutional. Watch mag sales STOP dead in their tracks. Then, all those mags that were hoarded are worth 20-30% less than what they were purchased for. On the other hand, they may be again be banned one day by the Feds. You COULD make a killing with a mag stash, or maybe not....... the new mag ban outlaws any type of transfer of highcaps. Keep buying em, although there is definitely some risk to hoarding this stuff |
Me personally am not buying to sell at a profit later, I don't want to get caught short handed like last time if it were to happen again, and pay a high price for a mag. I figure to stock up on the ones that I know I will have guns for. |
+1 on this. I will never sell my mags unless it comes to the point I can't feed my family. I am buying for a G19 right now that I don't have yet. |
|
I am not so sure that most who are buying extra mags are looking to make profits later. I, for one, see this issue as being similar to my parents going through the Great Depression (not, of course, to say that the Depression was not much, much worse) in that I will never be caught without plenty of spare mags again...just like my gran and mom would never have been caught without canned, or preserved food and meat in the freezer again. Ya live...ya learn...and what about if the Supreme Court goes the OTHER way on that decision, eh? Judges are independent thinkers and you can never predict what they will do with certainly because they don't know themselves ahead of time. |
I would rather have and not need than need and not have. If there was another ban we probably would be stuck with them as selling them may become illegal. Lets just hope it does'nt come to this and we can continue to buy any mag we want for resonable prices. |
If they go the wrong way its time to use them right? Or a boating accident. |
|
If the ban does not come I will be a very very happy person. I do not think I will lose a dime on any weapon/magazine I have ever purchased. I do not see mag prices increasing because of a possible ban. Glock Mags just took a price increase for the first time I can remember since the last AWB. AR mags have been plentiful as of late at reasonable prices. The logic of me losing any money and mag sales coming to a hault makes no sense to me. hinking.gif If the ban does come I feel I have enough to get by. If it does not come then we all win. Ban or No Ban I will still buy magazines, not as an investment, but to feed the necessary weapons I own. |
If you have to ask you won't understand. I was getting out of high school when the AWB ended. I've been stocking up on mags when funds come by. 20 AR mags and 15 G19 mags. I didn't have to go through the AWB too long and I don't plan on having to experience how it sucks to have 10 round mags. But the NFA sickness has got me now.... |
Even if there is risk, you'll always have spares. The glass is half full, buddy, the glass is half full. Right now mags are pretty darn cheap. They won't go too much cheaper even if bans are ruled unconsitutional. |
Gee whiz, over-react much? ![]() I have a multitude of Glock mags (of course, I have a dozen Glock handguns, a SUB2K, and two Oly K9-GLs to feed with them |
I wouldn't call him "one of those people". He just asked why so many? Not "Why do you need hi-caps etc?" I have about 10 mags per primary gun, less for stuff like my 22 plinkers. I don't have the disposable income to own a massive surplus and if I did I'd most likely spend it on other gear and guns. It's a legitement question I think. An answer like "I want them for potentail profit" or "I never want to worry about a ban" or "I want to be able to give them to my kids" makes sense. Personally I don't need that many, but I understand why others would want a little stockpile. |
