I am looking at a used Glock 23 for purchase.

What things should I look for to determine how old it is? The guy said it's night sights are starting to dim, but that there is still some factory grease in it, and still some bluing on the barrel so it appeared new.

Also, it is about $120 less than one brand new. So buy used or new? Does Glock have a lifetime warranty?

Most night sights will dim noticeably after 5-6 years.  8-10 years they are very dim.  This does not indicate how much the weapon was shot.

I think I read recently that Glock just announced a lifetime warranty.  It will not cover Tritium sights that have dimmed.

My personal experience with a heavily used Glock 17 is one that had bare spots rubbed into the slide's exterior, and had the front night sight shot loose.  I took it to the Glock factory for them to go over for a "safety" inspection.  They replaced every spring, the trigger mechanism...pretty much every moving part, and threw in brand new mags in exchange for all of my used ones.  No charge.

I have no problem buying or recommending the purchase of a used Glock.  Let someone else eat the cost of buying new.

Here's the beast I was refering to.  She's ugly but shoots like new.

This is the same G17 after I refinished the slide.  Waiting for night sights.

Here is a look at some of the parts of my worn G17 with severl thousand rounds fired next to parts of a G19 with fewer than 1000 rounds through it.  G17 on the right.

underside of teh slide wher the barrel hood rubs.  Kinda hard to see but it is pretty much bare metal on the G17 while there is still plenty of finish on the G19:

The lug area on the barrel assembly.  You can see it is still black on the G19 while there is a lot of bare metal on the G17.

Thanks SSN_Doc for the pics. The 23 I was looking at looked to be in good condition, so I "pulled the trigger" on it. Took it out and fires great!
