I have noticed that there are many people who seem to despise the Compensated models here on the threads. Most seem to think those who get them cannot handle recoil or limp wrist their pistols. I carried a mod22 for nearly 17 years but just 6 months ago switched to the mod22C. I did this to try and take a little time off from follow up shots. I have fired it in qualifications and close drills at night and have noticed no loss of night vision or excessive gas blowback. The only thing I have found is a slight blackening of the front sight after a box or two of ammo has been fired. Any other problems from C models out there that I am not aware of?

I have a 31C and love that pistol. I think most comments made about the "C" models are heresy or just pure ignorance.

I would only own a "C" model Glocks. Even of you do not like the compensators you can get a none-compensated barrel and have yourself a standard set-up. The flash from the compensator goes so fast I cannot see it either, but the gun is louder.

I own a 23C and have had no problems with blast or night shooting.

So... how badly does it smoke up night sights?  How many rounds until the front tritium is coverd in soot and not usable?

Well on your standard models the comps push outward to the right and left. So depend on the load it may take 50-100 rounds before the front sight is black. ON the 24c with the ports in the middle jetting front ward it takes 2-3 mags for me.My biggest problem has been finding a sight that holds up to the ports. I've gone through several sights and paints trying to keep something out there worth a damn.

So did it help improve anything?

no, no problems w/ the C models; imo, while a lot of the "negatives" for a "C" model for CCW/duty/defense are sometimes hyped, some do have some bearing

most blast and night excessive flash can be negated w/ good ammo (wheter for Cs or non)

This is what I want to know.   Is it worth the extra cost?

I'm wanting to get another G19 and G26.

Quite frankly, I like the "C" models.

However, the only reason that I do not choose to carry one of the "C" models for my "off-duty" CCW piece is that the compensation "ports" are not an acceptable option when one considers the possiblity that it may become necessary to discharge the pistol from a position very close to or in direct contact with my body during a situation when and where weapon retention becomes an issue. Granted, this is a somewhat unlikely situation, but a distinct possibilty, nonetheless.

The "ports" pose the very real danger of venting high pressure, high temperature propellant gases against any part of my body that may come into direct, or very close, contact to them and could result in damage being inflicted in the form of skin/tissue gas avulsion (blowing away), blindness, hearing loss and to a less significant extent, tissue/skin burns.

I have found the "C" models to be quite effective at reducing muzzle 'flip' and they are a lot of fun to shoot at the range, but I don't believe that they are the optimal choice in a CCW/Defensive sidearm for the reasons above.

What little the "C" models do blacken the front sight is really a non issue because most of us clean the gun
after range use anyway. If you need to discharge THAT many rds in a defensive shooting you are already
WAY behind in the fight.

I have used the pistol tucked in very close during drills and never suffered any burns, etc. from gas exiting the ports. The worst gas blowback I have ever had was firing suppressed weapons but this  has produced nothing compared to that. I do feel that it does reduce muzzle flip just enough to get back on target quicker than my non comp Glocks. I carry this weapon on patrol as my primary duty weapon with a mod 27 backup.

My experience is exactly like yours.  I have 5 glocks, had to get at least one C model and the 22C it was.  My front sight is black.

I recently purchased a G-19c for CCW and love it, I had the nite site installed buy Ghost Inc.,and had the tactical trigger put in by them also. It shoots better than my factory G-34.  The front site gets a little dirty but my trijicons still shine thru.  If I get in a situation where I could get burned by gas, that little burn is the least of my worries. I fire at nite and in "lights out" IDPA-style matches and have no trouble with "excessive flash" and thats running Winchester white box ammo.

I have a Glock 21C and I love it, I have had absolutely no problems with it an has been my carry pistol since 2003. I do not understand the drama with them; they work just as good as the non-compensated models.

Like I said, I love mine.

I went to the range today with both a 17 and a 17C. I fired them simultaneously, one in each hand. While the side by side difference between the recoil of the guns appeared slight using that comparison, I found that shooting them one at a time yielded desireable results.

I noticed after alternating 10 round volleys at the target with each gun that the 17C setteled in with considerably less deviation from the point of aim after a shot. That is, I could get back on target noticeable more quickly with the compensated model.

After 50 rounds through the gun there was absolutely no darkening of the sight, but the compensating cuts are angled off to the sides on this model.
