My wife is getting her CCW on Friday and I am getting her a G19. She has handled mine and had a problem with the mag release. What do you guys think about the extended mag releases? Any issues with them? Any possibility of effecting reliability or anything along those lines? Also, any particular version you guys recommend? I just that saw Vickers/Tango Down is also making them.

Thanks!

Get a factory one for the G21 and if she feels it is to long you can sand it down to her liking. One other choice is the oversized release from AroTek but you have to send them your receiver to have it fitted unless you are handy with a dremel. I've done several of mine. They are as close to the European oversized released Glock makes.

I have been using the Vickers mag catch on duty since August, I have been very happy with it.  We had a couple of officers who used the factory extended version and they were losing magazines when the mag catch would get pressed accidently.  I have not experienced this with the Vickers version.

+1 on the Vickers/Tango Down.......I also carry it on my G22........I'm a lefty and it definately helps me change mags quicker.

I have always used a G21 mag release on my G22 - absolutely zero issues, and very simple to install. Why spend more ?

IMO for a carry gun the standard size is best.Chances of her having to do a mag change in a gun fight are very slim.Have her practice dropping the mag while watching TV.Get her some snap caps to get her used to manipulating(sp?) the pistol. There is always the option of dropping the mag with her left index finger if she's right handed.

Did she pick the G19 or did you? There may be another pistol more suited for her.Check out some other options.Glocks aren't for everyone.

I'm 5'11/200lbs. and carry a G32.My GF is 5'4/125lbs. and carries a G17(her choice) with a G20/21 mag release.Maybe I don't know what the fuck I'm talking about.

VERY hard to get in the US. A friend had one and sent it to me.

Yes.

You can send the receiver to AroTek or if you are handy with a dremel you can install them in about 1hr. I have a special press with a custom cutters so I can install them at gun shows.

That euro release looks good; but you can get the same effect with a Vickers.

I've been using one on my BTC G19 for several weeks now; it really makes a difference. Got another one to put into my stock G19; need to do that today, as a matter of fact.

Lone Wolf Distributors also sells them.  You can send in your frame for them to cut it to fit and they turn it around in one day.

BTW, they also sell one for large framed 10mm and 45acp Glocks.  It's p/n is LWD-1981R and it's also $15.

The Vickers is just right...no sharp edges and a complete drop in.  Have one on my duty and off duty.

Thanks everyone! Although I never had a problem with mine this thread made me want to get one for my off-duty. I'm going to get the Vickers for my Wife.

BTW: I tried to get her to find a gun that fits her better but the only thing she liked better was a 32 revolver. I got her to stick to the G19.

It's probably their way of getting back at the American's who poo-poo'ed their NFML mags demanding we get mags that don't swell.

Not trying to be a smart a$$ but why spend $16 for something Glock sells for $3?

Not "European" but very similar.  This is the one I used from TopGlock.com.http://topglock.com/images/magcatchext.JPGExtended Controls

This is the two options I wanted to install on my G19 when I first purchased my pistol.  For me, these options makes it that much easier to manipulate compared to the OEM parts.

Because Glock doesn't sell it.

You CAN buy a Glock mag release for the 20/21 frame size, which is longer than the medium frame release... too long in fact, because it can (abd has) caused unintentional mag releases when the gun is laid on that side, etc.

The Vickers release is one of these cut down to about halfway between its origial length and that of the G17/19, and nicely smoothed/radiused.

Of course, if you were talking about buying the G21 release and doing it yourself, then okay. Personally, its worth $15 to me for somebody else to do it...
