I have searched high and low and finally got myself a 1st generation G17, Serial starts with "DE" which I believe is 1987, has all proof marks and such.........

What I need to find is a original box, the one with the spot for the ammo. Does anyone know where I could get one? I also need the factory adjustable rear sight. This is the one that stands up and hangs off the rear of the slide.

???????

Thanks

Call GLOCK and tell them your story, it will amaze you sometimes the old stuff they have laying around.

If they can't help.... just start digging through the classifieds here and at Glocktalk.

Got a photo of the original factory box you're seeking? I'm not sure what you mean, but I have some old Glock boxes...

A buddy of mine that works at the local gunshop. They got one out of a police department buy out. I've seen a couple for like $425, but I skated out with mine for $300 flat. I planned on paying up to about $375, but couldn't find one that cheap.

I'll see if I can find a pic of the box and rear sight.

That one doesn't have the dividers.

The ones mentioned have dividers that hold individual rounds.

BINGO!!! Thats the style box I need!! I called Glock like suggested, they said they will return my phone call in 3-5 days. She was very interested if it had been upgraded or still had the original parts from 1987. I told her it was all original, she said they would upgrade it for free if I would send it in. I asked about me keeping the original parts and she that was NOT possible. So, it's not going in. I can buy every upgraded available part for next to nothing, so no biggie.

I talked to a Glock armorer friend of mine and he said that when he went to Glock school, he took his 1st gen "A" series and they took his gun apart and put all his old parts in a plastic bag and disposed of them. I wonder how inferior the original parts were?

I also heard that alot of the original boxes have a bullet hole in them from people loading the pistol and placing it in the box? The way they placed the divider in the box, will engage a cocked trigger??!!?? I wonder what truth there is in that, or is it Glock fokelore?

Folklore. The gun doesn't have room to move, so it can't pull the trigger.

Take your parts out, and send it to GLOCK.

The issue with the old parts is:

A) Several of the new parts have larger cutouts for debris that the older ones don't.
B) This is what the upgrade itself entails:

GLOCK, INC. Technical Bulletin #920403

April 1, 1992

Glock, Inc. announces a production change of the firing pin safety system. This new firing pin safety system has been installed in all production Glock pistols since November, 1991. A voluntary upgrade is being offered to maintain the Glock tradition of ensuring that all of our pistoils are up to the latest standards in 21st century Glock technology.

Most importantly, the components of the new firing pin safety system are not interchangable with the components of the old system and Glock will always strive towards maintaining this feature of interchangability while working to ensure future interchangability.

The upgraded firing pin safety system consists of: the firing pin, firing pin safety, the extractor, the spring loaded bearing and the trigger bar. The upgraded system is applicable only to Glock pistols with the following serial number ranges :

Glock 17 - alpha prefix AA - WF
Glock 21 - alpha prefixes through XL
Glock 19 - alpha prefixes through WJ Glock 22 - alpha prefixes through YA
Glock 20 - alpha prefixes thorugh WW Glock 23 - alpha prefixes through SK

The upgraded firing pin safety has a new surface finish making it nearly 100% saltwater corrosion resistant. Also, after rigorous and extensive testing, the new system proves to be more durable and has a longer useful life. Here, as alwyas, Glock is working toward maintianing its standard of perfection.
