I own a GLOCK 22 and I'm in the market for a 9mm. I was deciding between the Sig-Sauer P226, the GLOCK 17 and the GLOCK 19. I went to the local shop and both the P226 and the G17 were being rented out at the time. So... I was left with the G19. I tested it, I loved it, end of story. I think the G19 fit better in my hand than my G22.

My only question for some more experienced with the G17/19 is: which is the best? I need a concensus. I'll probably be reaching a decision next week, so any insight would be appreciated.

As someone who owns both I prefer my G19. For some reason the 19 seems to fit my hand better, I seem to be able to get a higher grip on it which in turn makes it seem like it has less recoil than my G17.

If I could only have one I'd take the G19.

I own Glock 19 & 17 and SIG P226 and 228. First off--they are all great guns. My G19 used to be my primary carry gun until I switched to a Glock 36. The question I would ask is how does the G22 fit your hand? The  G19 is the same frame, only shorter. In my opinion, it's one of the absolute best handguns in the world given it's size, accuracy, reliability, etc.

SIGs by comarison are at least 1/4" thicker at the top of the grips--which is a big deal for CCW. SIGs are great--I shoot mine better than I do my Glocks, but I never use them for CCW because of how thick they are.

If you dig around, you can by a G17 slide and barrel and G17 mags and use your G22 frame as a G17. If it were me, I'd get the G19 as it's always been my favorite. But I'd lay odds you'll eventually wind up with both a G17 and G19.

Hope this helps.

For your G22, all you need is a 9mm conversion barrel and some G17 mags and you can shoot 9mm out of it.

As to the G19, It was my favorite of the Glocks until I fired my new to me Glock 30 today.

Now I would be hard pressed to choose one over the other, but if everything else was the same and I could only have one, I would probably still pick the G19.

Get what fits you the best after you test-fire both.

The 17 fits me better than the 19, but I now own several copies of both because they bith have their place in my CCW repertoire. The 19 suits me best in the summertime when I am looking for something a bit smaller to carry concealed under minimal clothing and the 17 is usually my cooler to cold weather gun because of the heavier clothing that allows easier carry of the larger pistol.

Get what you like best and keep in mind that this affliction will grow into something more. TK

I like them all. I shoot slightly better with the 17 I suppose, but the 19 is comfy and accurate as well. I like Sig's too. And apple pie.

I carry a G19 but I shoot my G17 better.  I could not live with out both.  My Sigs have been terrible.

I've thought about doing a conversion before; are you sure all you need is a G17 Barrel & Magazines to convert a G22? What about the extractor and any other vital components? Is there anybody that has actually done it this way and can vouch for it? I'd hate to do it and have it blow up in my face...literally.

I own both, and I agree wholeheartedly.

Say what?

Regarding the OP, if you have a full sized frame (22) and find the compact (19) more to your liking, by all means go for it. Both the 17 and the 19 are fine pistols. Personally, however, the 17 fits my hand much better.

thedave1164 is right; you'll need a 9mm conversion barrel and some G17 magazines. You don't need to worry about the extractor if you're only using it for plinking and practice. I run a Lone Wolf 40-9 conversion barrel in my G32 and it works great.

If this is not to be a carry gun consider a 34. You don't see many around but most any stocking glock dealer can order one. It has a 5-1/4"barrel and I find the extra length, weight and sight radius to be good things for a range gun . Comes stock with the better factory trigger

Glocks are the easiest guns in the world to "tweak" and make all the triggers the same. Lone Wolf and OMB Express sell parts, the PTOOMA Glock gunsmithing/reference manual is so well done I'm amazed there are't other primates working as "Glock Armorers..."

One can very easily turn a G19's trigger into a G34 for under $20 in about 10 minutes.

I have both. Love my 17 and it feels better in my big hands. That being said, I shoot better with the 19. Go figure. Either way you can't go wrong.

I have done the same thing for about 3 yrs.  I have a G22 with a Lone Wolf 9mm Conversion Barrel, and about 5 G17 mags and I highly recommend it.  No more mods were needed.  I have absolute faith and no worries whenever I go shooting.  I keep the 9mm for the training practice because its a bit cheaper but the .40 cal barrel sees a lot of trigger time also!  Good luck.
