I have seen mention of different generation Glocks. I have a model 23 that is 7+ years old. It came with 2 13 round magazines and the box top snaps on the lower part (it is not hinged) What generation is this?

I'd guess second generation. Does it have a rail and finger grooves? If it does, its 3rd Gen.

No finger grooves or rail= Gen 2
Finger grooves but no rail= Gen 2.5
Finger grooves with rail= Gen 3
