| I am thinking about getting a G21SF but, how much smaller in size and feel is it over the Reg, G21? I plan on using it on duty. I presently use a G22 and own 2- Kimbers 45ACP.and carry one of them off duty carry. I owned a G21 about 12 years ago and sold it beacuse it was too big feeling in my hands. But, I do like the feel of the B, M9. |
I was going to do the same thing, but I went to GT's and did a side by side comparison... That 21SF is still just a little too big. If you can, go somewhere you can compare the two, and see for yourself. I almost went the 21SF anyway, but I was advised against it by a friend that is a Glock armorer, who has experienced some quirks with the 21SF. ALso, if you are going to use on duty, you might want to think about which rail you are going with... The glock rail or the picatinny rail. Duty holsters are few and far between for the 21SF with the picatinny rail. I did read somewhere that the 21SF can share the same holster as the 21, but Ive only seen that in passing. If you check the Safariland site, they dont mention the 21SF with any other rail type than the Glock rail. There's my .02 about it. |

Our PD looked into getting a .45 after the Chief shot one during annual quals. She shot a Sig 220. After some research on police involved shooting by our PD, it was decided to go with a higher capacity gun. On average 8 shots were fired during the last 11 years or so of shootings. That ruled out the Sig. We looked at the H&K and 2 Glocks; 21 and 21SF. We contacted Glock and H&K and were sent demos. We had concerns with officers with small hands; males and females. I am the Dept armorer, a SWAT guy and in charge of all the depts firearms no matter what maker. I was not involved in making the final decision, it was left up to the shooters. They had to critique each gun when they finished on a prepared form we made up. When they arrived I immediately gave both Glocks to 2 females to hold and asked which one felt better. I never told them which one they were holding and neither of them were police officers. Both picked the 21SF. Then we picked 20 officers, male and female, to shoot each gun at the range during 4 hours of training. None of the officers were firearms instructors or SWAT guys. The results were overwhelming;17 picked the 21SF, 2 the H&K and 1 for the 21( a female ) The back strap is shorter on the 21SF giving it the feel of a 22/23. The trigger group is also different because of this. The mags are the same and they do make holsters. I believe the Raptor or something similar. Remember the only difference is the back strap/grip and that dosen't go in the holster . |
All the 21 mags are now made to work on both Mike |
Is that a fact? I may have a 21SF in my future... |
Thanks to another posting here I found the new glock 21 magazines from http://glockparts.com/ for 19.95 each. The work in all my Glock 21s, including the SF. |
$13.99 from Botac $15.99 from OMB |

FWIW, I have some G21SF comments: 1. After 300 rounds, the trigger has smoothed out quite nicely. The first 50 rounds gave me a charliehorse in my hand. Now the 2d stage of trigger pull is firm without being heavy. To be quite honest, for a CCW pistol I don't want a hair trigger anyway, lest adrenaline make me pull the trigger all the way when I don't want to. 2. I purchased a Glockparts +2 extender magazine (making it 15 rounds) and had no jams, FTFs, etc. in 100 rounds thru it. Fifteen +1 rounds of .45ACP is bad mojo for the bad guys ![]() 3. The G21SF is not hard to shoot well. I am a mediocre pistol shot. Yet, if I hang up two paper plates at 7 yards, point the pistol down, then bring it up and blaze away with fast-as-I-can double taps at each plate, the first plate is always 2 shots within 1.25" and the second plate is 2 shots within 3". Not too bad for combat accuracy. 4. Just a WAG, but doesn't the 21SF completely destroy the need for pistols in .45GAP? 5. The picatinny rail makes it look like something Robocop would carry ![]() ETA: I reread the OP, and wanted to point out that (a) I am a 1911 lover and (b) the G21SF grip is easy to use if you are used to 1911s. Hope this helps. |
hell yeah! thats my one reason for considering the pic rail over the glock rail |
| Not exactly side by side but the best I can do from work... Doesn't anyone else work???http://www.notoo7.com/images/Jguns0507-2.jpg |
My understanding was that the Picatinny had slighty different dimensions on the front of the frame than the Glock rail model. Therefore, different holsters. G-21SF with Glock Rail will fit the G-21 standard holsters but, G-21SF w/Picatinny Rails will not. At least according to the Safariland Will Fit chart. BikerScout Sunny AZ |
